Did I get you?

This thread is an unofficial guide on becoming ready to apply for helper, and whether you are ready or not.

If you catch yourself thinking "Am I ready to become helper?", or "Should I apply to become helper?"... just stop there. Let me be the first to tell you, you're not ready. You need to be confident in your skills, and your possible ability to moderate this sever. However, their is a difference between confident, over confident, and arrogance.

Here is a prime example of arrogance/over confidence (I'm sorry if you take offence to me using you as an example L33t_H4wk)

If you say something like this on your application... you're not ready to be a helper, and 99.9% of the time your application is going to be denied.

Just FYI, never... ever... make a thread asking "Should I apply for helper". If you would like to find out what you could do to better yourself, ask your friends, or even the community what you could work on. Don't say "Hey broskie! How you doin'? What do you think I could do to improve my chances of being a mod?", or "What could I do to better myself for a moderator position?". Just keep it simple "What are some of my flaws you guys think I could work on?", make sure if you do this that you are ready to hear some cold hard truth, and be willing to accept it.

Ok, so lets get into the application process.

Throughout your entire application you need to keep it formal... correct punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Common things that I see are: "plz", "thx", "I like 2" or "I did this 4", and faces like XD ect... I really prefer not to see faces in your applications. I also like to see applicants refrain from using words like "help", "helping", and "helpful". I see too many applications filled with these words. "I like to help people, by helping, because I am helpful", while no one really says it like that example... that's basically their application in a nutshell. Their used to be a rule (one that I wish was still here) stating that you are not allowed to use: help, helpful, and helping. Also... do NOT put polls on your application.

Also refrain from over using/using out of context words like "Like", like I know you all like to use the word "like", but like seriously it like fills the entire application up with like... "like". It is like.. really annoying.
See what I did there?

Now, be sure you are filling your application up with good information. Don't put in mumbojumbo about the magical purple flying monkey ninjas of doom that tried to kill you that one time. Keep it all relevant to Meepcraft and moderation. Also do not make promises you cannot keep like "I will stahp all teh greifers!"

"Hello friends! My name is Madison or June, call me whatever you prefer. I spend a lot of my time here on Meepcraft and enjoy it as well. Other than being on the computer I like to go snowboarding and play guitar. I have been doing both of those things for a very long time and hope to improve my skills even more. I try to expose myself to lots of different activities. Knowing how to do a variety of things lets you be smarter and a more well-rounded person. Along with computers, although I’m not that good at it, I like to design little websites with fun buttons and colors. I’m trying to learn more languages but it’s a pain. Learning Java has definitely helped me understand Minecraft and the server a lot more." -June lawnchaired

Now, this is a perfect example of this topic. Though Madison talked about snowboarding and guitar playing, she kept it relevant. How? One may ask. She went on to describe her drive to better the skills she already has, and her drive to learn new things. This is completely relevant to becoming a moderator, if you wish to become a moderator you need to be willing to learn new things and improve on what you may already know, some of which may include: people skills, typing, spelling, grammar, punctuation (So you can continue to communicate with the community), moderator commands, rules, ban lengths, and the list goes on and on.

If you have past experience moderating servers that is a good addition, though again you want to keep it relevant to Meepcraft, and you don't want to advertise.

Bad example: I haz been Adzmin on 24 PMC servers and I is gud at moderwaitor commandz, one of teh servers I has been staff on iz prettykittycatMC.cat. (Not a real server as I am sure you can tell)

Again I am going to quote Madison here:

"I’ve been playing on Meepcraft technically since April. I came on the server and left within minutes because there were far too many people. The spam was too much for me seeing that I was used to co-owning a server that had 30 people max."-Junelawnchaired

Once again she kept this very relevant while explaining two vital things. One is how long she has been playing, and the other is past experience. She didn't advertise, and kept it very relevant. (Kudos on such a grate application Junelawncharied, I hope you don't mind if I use these bits and pieces)

A few other things you should talk about is your work ethic, dedication, why they should specifically pick you over other applicants (don't say "cause I am better"), tell us what makes you unique and different. I also strongly believe in making your application two weeks in advance, peer editing it, and looking at it once a day to work out kinks and make it better. Remember to follow the format, and the forum rules while applying. Be sure you accept criticism very well, expect bad replies, and be creative!

People like to see long applications, though I disagree... if you make it too long you will start to repeat yourself and talk about jibberjabber. Kept it short (but not too short) and to the point, be direct.

EDIT: One last thing... don't make your application boring, people wont want to read it. Make it interesting, give it a good title, and start out by drawing your readers in.

Quite obviously the Introduction of the application is for you to introduce yourself, and more importantly this is your best time to be creative. Most people start out by saying "Hello, my name is blah or you can call me blah, I joined Meep on blah date." I challenge you to do different. It gets old and boring to see the same thing over and over, you need your application to be different and stand out over the rest. Again you need to draw you readers in, and make them want to read it.

I will be making an introduction for myself as if I were applying for moderator. Keep in mind that if I were to be applying I would have made this two weeks before hand, and would be able to work out any kinks or add anything I would need.

Introduction: Almost two years ago on a Minecraft server quite like this, an ancient creature named the "PhoenixPuppy" (also known as Richard) suddenly appeared in its spawn. The PhoenixPuppy eventually got to know the people and laws of the kingdom known as Meepcraft. Soon after, the PhoenixPuppy was granted the title of "Moderator", and would eventually stand at the right hand of the all mighty creator, fuzzlr. PhoenixPuppy guarded the great kingdom for many seasons; however like all who came before him he had his time, and needed to leave. Though before he left, he vowed that one day he would return, and guard the kingdom once again... then he burst into flames and turned to dust in the wind.


Breaking it down:

(Why should you be helper/mod)

The "Why should you be helper/mod" portion of the application is your time to shine. This is where you explain and tell us your best qualities. This is where you will get your chance to tell us what is so great about you, what would make you a good helper, why we should pick you, and more importantly why we should pick you over other applicants.

(Examples of skills, you shouldn't just copy these and say I am good at them, you need to be honest)
-Ability to communicate with the community, younger and older.
-Understanding of the commands
-Ability to work in a team environment
-Having the ability to remain non-bias
And the list goes on and on, anything that you think is relevant, put it down.

WHAT MAKES YOU STICK OUT? I cannot stress the importance of this statement. You need to make people look at your application and say "Wow! Now this is a guy I would like to moderate this server." In the application process "Okay" isn't good enough, you need to be outstanding. Again you need to be confident (Not over confident though) with your abilities, you need to appeal to the player base... but more importantly you need to appeal to yourself.

I've had a few people message me about their applications, they've asked me "Is this good?", "What do you think I need to fix?". I am all for peer editing, and I am very glad these guys have messaged me about this applications (Sorry if I haven't been as much help as you may have hoped, I've been quite busy), though in the end it is their decision to post it. You guys need to have your application appeal to yourself most of all, not just to me, or bobthebuilder. You need to look at this application and say "I love it". Once you are confident in your application, then you are ready to post it.

Most importantly, you need to be honest with us and yourself. You need to be 100% honest on your application, and you need to seem believable.

Application breakdown: Weaknesses

So this is a bit late... just by a few days you know.

So lets get into the weakness then, shall we?

Weaknesses is a very important part of your application, as with any part it can make or break it. You need to spend a lot of time, and thought into the weakness portion. Ask yourself the obvious question "What are my weaknesses?". Don't just look at another application and say well uhm I think maybe it could be maturity, just think long and hard... everyone has a big weakness.

This would be my weakness portion if I were to apply:

One of my biggest weaknesses is my tendency to blow things out of proportion. Ever so often I may see a post, thread, ban appeal, ban, kick, or just little things especially within the staff team I will dislike. As you all know from my infamous rant threads. Most people view them as little things, for me it's not like that. This is not just a problem I can just say "stop", however it is something I can keep under control or to myself as a staff member. I know how and when I need to set the example as a staff member.

The weakness do not stop there... I have a fairly bad memory. Never could figure out why, been like that these past 5ish years. I can be sweeping a floor and use the restroom, and next you know I am mopping the floor and the broom is still where I left it. I know lots of people have bad memories, however this can be worse than some others I have seen. However if I am able to be set on one task I can stick with it until the end. That is also a good reason why we do modreqs and such one at a time. Again, it's not something that I can just say "im working on it", however I can promise that if I notice it beginning to largely effect to moderate, I will resign my position.

What I personally like to see:

At least two of them

in my opinion five or six would be a bit much.

Roughly the same length I have above for each.

At the end of each one, put what you are doing to fix the issue. Or what you can do about the issue to keep it under control.

Dont just say I can be immature because (X) some times.

(Note; this copy of the thread may not be 100 percent accurate, a few small parts were deleted accidentally so I had to improvise .)

(Note; this is not a hateful thread or an attempt to mock the rules, for the newer members who have never seen it before.)

Step 1: Hack.
Hacking is the easiest way to get banned. Whether you are using a hacked client, exploiting a glitch, or crashing the server, this is the number one way to find yourself whacked by the ban hammer.

Step 2: Grief.
What? Hacking not getting you banned? Try griefing. Griefing is a fun way to induce hatred as well as get yourself banned. There are so many ways to grief, steal, and enrage a player, so this method is enjoyable and profiting, if you count getting banned as profitable.

Step 3: Ask for OP/Creative.
Oh yes, we TOTALLY believe you're from Planet Minecraft. However, our keystrokes are more likely going to be /ban instead of /op. Or, you can be dumb and simply ask outright, "Can I have op? Plzplzplzplz I won't grief." The answer will be /ban.

Step 4: Swear.
Swearing is a surefire way to get yourself on the path to a bad reputation. This includes but is not limited to: "Omg, your mother can suck my ****.", or "Hey dude you're so ***." Treat this like Call Of Duty. Let your colorful language run wild. Side effects of swearing include extreme butthurt, and/or banning.

Step 5: Inappropriate Buildings.
Dude, you should totaly build that giant male genitalia right in front of spawn. You won't get banned, I promise.

Step 6: Advertising.
Want to show off your server to the world? What better place to invite people then MeepCraft? Of course, a few hundred players may see, and maybe a few staff members. No big deal.

Step 7: Inappropriate Skins.
That nude guy skin is so hot... Totally want to use it...

Step 8: Spam.
Omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg. Spamspamspamspamspamspamspamspamspamspamspam.

Step 9: Alternate Accounts.
Dude, go on your brother's account to player, They won't EVER know it's you.

Step 10: Inappropriate Content.
Ask other players to have intercourse with you. Describe yourself in detail. Post revealing pictures. A few players may like, staff will not.

Step 11: Encouraging Others.
Get your friends banned along with you! It's an enjoyable bonding experience.

Step 12: Scam.
People love to receive imaginary efficiency IV pickaxes all the time! Make sure to add in it's silk touch or something.

Step 13: Skype.
Make sure to break all the rules when talking on Skype. There is a 66.6% chance of you getting banned. If you are a staff member, you may have to be demerited first. Don't let that deter you, just keep on going!

Step 14: Questions.
Make sure your questions and opinions regarding the server are negative. There is a 99.9% chance you will get banned if you do it repeatedly.

Step 15: Destruction of Spawn.
Rosenow only, spawning a giant lava cube is the best way to go!

Step 16: Ask.
When all else fails, the only thing you may be able to do is ask to be banned. The staff will be happy to oblige.

Step 17: Give CrueltyGaming Advice.

 

So, many-a-guide has been made for aspiring staff members. There even is an official one, found if you scroll down from the format. Handy, eh? But being a player who frequents staff recruitment, I have some tips not only for those who are applying, but also for those who just want to get better at giving good feedback.

Applying​

Prerequisites
The most common criticisms I see are ‘needs more in game, forum, and TeamSpeak activity’. These should all be common sense, but oftentimes they aren’t. Always ensure that you have all the required accounts before applying, such as Skype and TeamSpeak, and make sure you have a working mic as all interviews are done through TeamSpeak voice chat. Other than that, I have a few extra tips for each of the main criticisms.

In Game:
What I like to see from potential Helpers is a general friendliness. Sure, many people ask for /shout activity, as it’s a good way to get yourself out there. However, I understand that it is difficult to keep track of /shout, and oftentimes you want to /msg a player instead of add to the spam in shout. Contrary to what people often believe, /shout is not the only way you can prove yourself to be a helpful and kind player. Other places you can help out are places such as spawn, or town spawn. Plenty of people run around these places, asking for help, and often people miss it. Knowing many towny and other commands can’t hurt, and neither can knowing the rules well. One thing I don’t like seeing is people offering help in shout. Sure, you want to be helpful, but whenever I see this, I just know that whomever is offering it is just doing it to look better on their upcoming/current staff application. It seems extremely desperate to me, and I would prefer it if I didn’t see people doing this before an application. In simplest terms, just be friendly.

Forums:
Well, unfortunately, the forums are always what people seem to forget. This upsets me, because as you can tell, I am extremely active here. The forums are often the easiest for people to access, or at least, that’s the way for me. Generally, I hope to see an applicant be at the very least a ‘Member’ before they apply, although it’s not necessary. For me, I prefer seeing quality posts, rather than a large amount of posts. I look for contributive posts in Suggestions, Report a Bug, Q&A, and Staff Recruitment when looking at a player’s forums activity. Constructive posts are my favorite to see, and the general rule for forums is the same as in game; try to just be friendly.

TeamSpeak:
I don’t really have much to say on the fact of TeamSpeak, as I wouldn’t say I’m the best authority on it. However, I do see its importance in staffing. When working on TS activity, just try to join groups and talk with people. Believe me, I understand if you are shy, but you have to try before anything can change. I was shy when I started as a Helper, but as I’ve spent more time talking with people on TS, I’ve realized it’s not as scary as it may appear. My best advice is to just swallow any fears you have and try your best to interact with people. And while we don’t often have to kick and ban people on TS, it’s a good idea to be familiar with it and be comfortable in one on one conversations.

Summary:
While people tend to stress the prerequisites, it isn’t the most difficult thing to consistently do. Use your current abilities to the fullest! Like I said, just be sure to be a generally all around friendly player, and try to help where you can. After all, the main role of a Helper is just like their name; to help! All in all, make sure that you feel ready when you apply.

Application
While oftentimes people say the application isn’t that important, I think it’s much the contrary. Good activity is always wonderful, but a good application is a great way to have a better first impression. Good grammar and spelling is always a plus, too. You need to strongly present yourself so that people can have a look-in on what you are like. Finally, while your application is up, ensure that you don't bump it or reply to every post, as this makes you seem desperate.

Introduction:
Now, I often see people completely miss the point of the introduction. An introduction is there to let the people who don’t know you get a little insight into what you are like, and let the people who do know you get to know what you think of yourself. It shouldn’t be much about your MeepCraft ‘life’ or how much you like MeepCraft, it should be about you; your personality, your likes, your dislikes, etc. Try to stay away from mentioning MeepCraft the best you can.

Why:
The Why is often considered the most important part of the application. This is where you really sell yourself. The current tips and tricks thread has good guidelines, but I honestly like to see more creative applications. Sure, you can use those general categories as the base, but I prefer it when I see people add their own twist onto it. Just think about what makes you unique, and what drove you to apply. That’s the best tip I could give you on the Why. This is your place to show what you’d bring to our team.

Weaknesses:
Now, this is the part where I see a lot of people slip up. No, we don't want to see 'weaknesses' like "I don't know redstone" or even something like "I don't know all the staff commands". We want to see things like "short fuse" or "holds grudges". Along with just listing them, explain to us how this effects you as a citizen currently, how you suspect it will affect you if you get accepted, and finally, how you plan to prevent it from affecting you. Make a good strong paragraph for each weakness, and please don't say 'I have no weaknesses', because everyone does.

Conclusion:
I'm going to keep this short and sweet. That's exactly what your conclusion should be; short and sweet. Remember to just quickly sum up everything you said in your application. Try to keep it under ten sentences, and make sure that you don't add any new information. If it's that important, put it in your Why.

Summary:
Basically, if you think it is important enough to be in your application, put it in. Leave each section to what it's for; introduce yourself in the introduction, explain to us why you are unique and should be accepted in the why, tell us where you are weak in the weaknesses, and sum it all up nicely in the conclusion.

Basically, when applying, be respectful, keep your nose clean, and just be an all around friendly and literate person.

Reviewing

Now reviewing is always good, you know. People applying need feedback, and it's best when it comes in a respectful, constructive way. Remember to always add reasoning to your posts, otherwise it will be deleted and a warning point added to your account. Please, please, do not just do 'reasons above'. These posts are absolutely useless and one of my pet peeves, as they are just to up post count and fish for possible likes, which bothers me. If you don't have anything new to add, don't reply at all.

The first tip I have is format. Reviews look nicer when they have a good format, or at least aren't just a wall of text. It may not seem that important, but a nice looking review is more likely to be read and taken in by the applicant.

Basic things to think of when reviewing are forums activity, teamspeak activity, and in game activity. These are just the simple things, but also a good start. Take into account if you have seen them in these places at all. For example, if they are a new member, you probably haven't seen them on the forums. This is just a base for your vote.

Next thing to look at is their application. Was it well written? Did you feel compelled to keep reading, or was it just a list? Did they include everything you think they should have? If you were unable to understand it, for example, because the spelling or grammar was bad, mention this as well.

Think about your experiences with this person. Have you seen them helping out, and being friendly? Or are they rude, and make fun of other players? Also remember to take into account any past bans they have, and if they've made an effort to redeem themselves from these bans. Just try to remember what they are like and if you think they are ready for the position of power.

Finally, look at what other people have said. This may seem strange, but sometimes it can be useful to see what experiences other people have had. Be careful, though; avoid listening to bias and letting it affect your opinion. Positive bias is often easier to spot than negative, but just be sure you can recognize it in this step. Otherwise, this is a good way to get a feel for the person applying, especially if you don't know them that well.

I hope that my guide was able to help potential reviewers/applicants, both now and in the future. I frequent the staff recruitment section, so I know how to review, and I've written two accepted applications, so I recognize the requirements. Anyways, that's it!

 

This is a guide, that while seeming like a joke, is an efficient introduction to survival minecraft. It is meant primarily for those who want to get started in the Wild. [edited to comply with rules on foul language]

Day One:

You don’t just spawn in, you come in at break neck speed in a perpetual one arm pull up hanging butt-naked from the adams apple of a large majestic eagle. You descend wingless and without parachute being drug hurtling towards the ground by the sheer weight of your massive balls of steel.

Upon touching down in a fervor that would make Michael Bay's special effects team feel inadequate you survey the area for the biggest baddest tree in the yard.

It’s time to get serious now.

Approach the tree with a gait that makes the tree shrink at least 6 inches in every direction, as if clenching its collective butt-cheeks.

Starting at the base of the trunk, hurtle your fists at its weak wimpy flesh until it fires out with such force to form a condensed cube of its former self and leaves space and time in such shock that gravity forgets its duty and the tree hangs there in mid air, speechless.

Collect 2 more fear ridden logs from the sorry excuse for an organism. Leave the tree suspended, weeping softly to itself.

Using nothing but your inventory screen and your bare hands schuck the logs into wood planks, clutching 12 planks in your mighty grasp. Smile up at the tree menacingly as you convert 4 of these planks in your inventory to a workbench, a proper place to “man”ipulate elements to your will.

Place the workbench where the base of the tree once stood, further mocking its incredibly finite existence. Craft the remaining planks into 4 sticks, combine 2 of them with 3 planks to form a wooden axe.

Hop onto the workbench striking a pose that makes captain morgan feel inadequate and render the rest of the logs from the tree. Remark mentally how this is just like beating someone with their own arm.

Collect any apple and sapling shaped tears that were shed as the tree faded from its miserable existence.

In addition to the axe, make a pickaxe as well, carrying on the theme of beating things with their own arms.

Strip the land of its grass covered dirt skin until you have at least 51, ensure that you have done so to expose the tender cobblestone flesh to the light of day. Mine at least 4 cobblestone, leaving a wound to let this world know where you’re headed next.

Construct a 3x3 hollow square on the ground, lay 6 more layers on top of this structure until it resembles a testament to your dominance over this land, so that terror may be felt by the elements of the world having to gaze up at its impressive spire. Cap it off with not 1 but 2 blocks to seal it up. Now bash a 2 tall hole into one side to remind it who is the boss. “Man”ipulate 6 planks into a rudimentary door, and jam it into the fresh orifice of your creation.

Survey the area for any inferior forms of animal life, and bludgeon them with the arm of your first victim while the trees look on in horror.

Bonus points for doing so bare-handed, extracting only the juiciest cuts of meat from your prey in a fashion that makes Kah-lee-mah look like a drooling toddler thumbing jello excitedly.

When your tools finally succumb to their inherent weakness, render another tree to the ground in a manner equally grueling to the first victim and resume slaughtering anything that dares move until the sun begins to back away slowly no longer able to withstand the horror of your rampage. This time craft stone versions of these tools.

Head into your house and close the door, routinely, while the sun cowars behind the planet, glare menacingly at your next victims through the mutilated corpse of their fallen comrade.


Day Two.... soon.

 

Instructions not clear, cat stuck in washing machine

 

Now that it's a better size, you have to save it to your computer. Select 'File', 'Save', and then save it as you want it named to a good place on your computer. Personally, I like my Pictures folder, but it's your choice.


Click back onto your fire background, then hit 'Layer', 'Open Image as Layer', then select your picture.


Move the Charmander to where you want it (I prefer the edges myself), and select the eraser tool. Select the brush size you want (depending on the image, I select a hard, round, 9 or 15 or 20).



Now, wherever you draw, it will erase the background. Try to keep a steady hand, and if you mess up, don't be afraid to undo using the 'History' box on the left. Once you erase most of it, you can use smaller or larger brushes depending on what is left. Tip; Zoom in by scrolling down on your mouse wheel, or however else you scroll. Note that I also felt that it should be on the other side, so after erasing the background I went to 'Layer', 'Flip Horizontal', then selected the move tool and moved it to the opposite side.




I also added a bit of glow on the tail, which you'll notice later.

Alright, now for the fun part; textures. I usually get these off deviantart, due to the fact that I can tell if they are free to use or not. My favorite person is sirius-sdz because all of their textures are free and wonderful, so I suggest trying them first. Once you find a picture, copy the url (right click and select 'Copy Image Url'), then add it like a normal layer. This is where the fun begins; You can change the effect on the layer. With the layer selected, click the arrow in the bottom left of the box, and then select the drop-down menu for Mode. Layer, Alpha, and Erase modes do nothing, so I suggest not even trying them. Play around with these for awhile, then when you are happy, adjust the opacity until you are satisfied. For this, I chose 41 opacity and a Hardlight mode, which I thought enhanced the glow of the picture.




I think that should be it for Pixlr. Select 'File', 'Save', and then put it in the correct folder. Keep this tab open though, just in case.

PICMONKEY​

Open up Picmonkey.com. Select 'Edit', then find your picture. I often use simple, easy to remmber names, such as personnamesig and personamesigtxt, so I can remember well.

Picmonkey is the place to play. There are so many effects, text, and other fun things to play around with. For this sig, I decided to use 65% faded green Cross Process, 10% strength Boost, size 13 round Bokeh, size 39 intensity 40% black Dark Edges, size 74 black 0% faded Santo Dumont text saying 'Randomuser123', and size 20 black 20% faded La Belle Aurore text saying 'the brightest fires are those of the heart'.

When you are done, you can exit all your tabs and upload the photo to imgur.com. Share it using the url at the top, I'd love to see your work!

Here are ways to give good staff app responses.
•Always be biased
•Don't let -1 and +1 restrict you! Go to +1000000 or -999999!
•Always give stupid reasons such as I never see you helping in shout
•Be rude towards all players, especially new players!
•Just leave a +1, -1, etc. with no tips or anything

And that's how you make a good response to a staff app!

•Don't be biased, because just because somebody is your friend doesn't mean they deserve staff
•Don't give stupid reasons. Give reasons such as abilities a player has to have to become staff
Ex.
-Activity
-Maturity
-Nice (not just nice but doesn't have anything else, but just not rude)
-Helpful (Not in /shout only, but maybe if you've noticed something or see them helping on forums)
•If you are giving them a -1, give them ways to improve, especially their application
•Try to be nice, and try to not be rude (this is bold because this is a big problem with the current community)
•Try not to just leave a -1 or a +1, especially don't just leave a -1 (maybe a +1 occasionally)

Villager trading can be a great, no-risk way to earn meebles, especially if you know a good technique for trading. It doesn't really matter what your rank is when you trade, since most of the items you'll buy will come from the v-shop anyway. It's worth mentioning that I taught a friend of mine everything you'll see in this guide and he made it to 4th richest in the server with only a Premium Rank.

First you'll need to know what villagers to look for depending on your rank, and what items you can get cheap. These are all of the items villagers will trade for and how to get them:

Farmer Villager - Wears a brown robe
Wheat - v-shop or a farm
Wool - v-shop or sheep farm
Raw chicken - v-shop or chicken farm
Cooked fish - v-shop or fishing. (usually too expensive and usually worth your time to fish yourself)
Gold ingots - requires 8-9 ingots a trade which will cost you more money than an emerald is worth

Librarian Villager - Wears a white robe
Paper - v-shop or you can craft using sugarcane (sugarcane is available on the v-shop or a farm)
Book - v-shop or you can craft using paper+leather(v-shop)
Written book - v-shop or you can craft using book+feather+inksac (inksacs are available at /warp shop)
Gold ingots - requires 8-9 ingots a trade which will cost you more money than an emerald is worth

Emeralds + Book --> Enchanted books - This trade requires emeralds.

Priest Villager - Wears a purple robe
Gold ingots - requires 8-9 ingots a trade which will cost you more money than an emerald is worth

Emeralds --> Bottle o' Enchanting - This trade requires emeralds.

Blacksmith Villager - Wears a brown robe with a black apron
Coal - v-shop or you can buy a stack for 250 each at /warp shop, Elites+ only: you can buy a stack for 215 each in the Elite shop
Iron Ingots - v-shop or you can mine yourself at /warp wild
Gold ingots - requires 8-9 ingots a trade which will cost you more money than an emerald is worth
Diamond - Do not give him diamonds for emeralds! You will waste your money every time!

Butcher Villager - Wears a brown robe with a white apron
Coal - v-shop or you can buy a stack for 250 each at /warp shop, Elites+ only: you can buy a stack for 215 each in the Elite shop
Raw Pork - v-shop (kill some pigs)
Raw Beef - v-shop (kill some cows)
Gold ingots - requires 8-9 ingots a trade which will cost you more money than an emerald is worth

When you are ready to make a trade you should note: Villagers will trade 7 times before they lock up. Check how much of an item they require and multiply it by 7 to see how much you should get.

Once a villager locks up his trades exit out of the trade window and wait a few moments until you see swirls emitting from the villager. He is once again ready to trade, but this time with a new item.
This is the part where you can really make money, when you trade with a Butcher it will pay off to spend a few emeralds to open up a new slot instead of killing the villager and getting a new one. This is because there is a large, cheap supply of Coal, Pork, and Beef on the v-shop. When you get a villager it won't take long before he wants to trade for 2 or 3. Let me explain how quickly you can make money when you get to this point. Suppose he wants 15 pork for an emerald, 15 beef for an emerald, and 15 coal for an emerald. 15 x 20(price of pork) x 5(average number of trades before you'll have to refresh) = 1500(what you'll spend). So that's 15 x 15 x 5 = 1125 for 5 emeralds. The same applies to beef so 15 x 10 x 5 = 750 for another 5. Coal is a cheaper so 15 x 4 x 5 = 300 for 5 emeralds. To recap you just spent 2175 for 15 emeralds. But, you can sell these emeralds for 475 each, so 15 x 475 = 7125. 7125 - 2175 = 4950. You just make almost 5k in a process that takes only a minute. The best part? You can keep doing this over and over again without having to find a new villager, all it takes is about an average of 2 emeralds(950) to reset all of your villager's trade slots. You can literally keep doing this until you get bored of trading.

Ready to sell all those emeralds you got?
A guaranteed price to get them to sell quickly is 475. Anything less than 450 and you're ripping yourself off. Anything over 500 and it may take some time for them to sell. If you want to instantly sell your emeralds there is a shop at "/t spawn Riverdell" where you can sell a stack of emeralds for 30k (468.75 each)

Reverse Trades
For this section I only included the trades where you could make money. Of course with both trades you'll have to figure out the current price of each to see if you should make the trade. When trading emeralds for enchanted books, you'll have to use your own judgement. The villager may want anywhere from 5-71 emeralds and you'll have to compare this to the value of the enchanted book.

Remember!
-When a villager locks up his trade only trade once with his very last slot to refresh all the trades.

Tips:
-To ensure you don't over pay for an item on the v-shop use this formula to be sure it's worth the trade:
P=price of an item on the v-shop
475=how much you'll get for an emerald. If you think you can get more put what you think you can get instead
a=The amount of an items a villager wants for an emerald

P ≤ 475/a
If you're not good at math the formula means that the price of an item on the v-shop must be less than or equal to 475 divided by the amount of an item a villager wants per trade.

-Keep a calculator handy, you're going to need it.
-Check the v-shop often for the prices of the items you'll need for trades.
-If you are a donator, use your /chest to store extra items for trading. When storing coal, convert it to coal blocks for extra storage space.

Some people seem to think there's nothing to do in minecraft. I'm helping.
Most of these should probably be in towny, but several can transfer to other worlds too.
I just do towny because that's what I currently play the most.

1. Make a town from scratch using /t new
2. Restore an old, abandoned town to it's former glory. Harder than it looks.
3. Tear down and rebuild your town's already existing spawn and make it cooler.
4. Build some automatic farms for your residents.
5. Build grinders (If you are elite + or have an elite + in your town.)
6. Make those grinders automatic.
7. Find an old water temple.
8. Mine out said water temple.
9. Make a grinder out of said temple.
10. Make said temple grinder automatic.
11. Build yourself a new storage with a chest or two for every possible item.
12. Fill up at least 50% of those chests. It'll take a loooooong time.
13. Max out your /jobs levels. It'll take 12+ hours of work per job.
14. Get a full inventory of TnT and blow up the wild.
15. Set up a board at a nether portal and put down your IGN (Muunkee was here) and come back later to see if it's griefed or if it has more names :3
16. Make some pixel art! Everyone loves pixel art, and it's fairly easy but takes you awhile,along with some thought as to what blocks should represent different colors.
17. Build a 1 block : 1 inch scale model of your bedroom. Make it as close as possible. Probably best in singleplayer.
18. Build a minecraft size model of your house IRL.
19. Build a disco party room in your town, make it dark, and give people fireworks. Whoo.
20. Set up a firework show area and fill up the dispensers. People like fireworks.
21. Sell fireworks.
22. Sell all of your spare items to various /pwarp's.
23. If a chest in a /pwarp is not full, make if full. I dare you.
24. Set up a small shop with cool little items like /vote notes or unique blocks like the stone slabs with the wooden textures.
25. Set up a large shop with as many items as possible. Fill up all the chests before opening it to the public.
26. Make an awesome PvP arena. Don't make it too big or too fancy and people will yell at you.
27. Make a god item shop with god tools and armour and weapons.
28. Make a shop for the 1.9 items when it comes out! Tipped arrows, Purpur blocks, etc.
29. Get to level 20 in infected.
30. Get to level 20 in laser.
31. Get 25,000 total coins in infected

Ever wondered how to build a slot machine? This thread will teach you step by step!

What you need:
- 2 chests
- 1 hopper
- 1 dispenser
- 1 redstone comparator
- 1 redstone repeater
- 2 redstone
- 1 redstone torch
- 1 stone block
- 1 sign

Steps

1. First, place your chests and hopper like in the picture. This is the part where the player buys from the chestshop in order to get the prize. First place the bottom chest, then to place the hopper, shift and click on the back of the bottom chest. You should see them both connect. Then shift click on top of the hopper to place the other chest on top.


2. Now you want to place the dispenser, like in the picture. Place it diagonal to the bottom chest.

3. Ah, redstone time! Place the comparator beside the dispenser. The two 'sticks' on the comparator should be facing the bottom chest. Then place the repeater beside the comparator like in the picture. Make sure the right click the repeater to set it to 1 'tick.'


4. Next, you want to place the stone block opposite the comparator. Then place a redstone on top of it, then another redstone opposite the repeater. Both redstones should join.



5. Now, place the redstone torch on the blank side of the stone block, like so.


6. Now, fill your top chest with any random, worthless item. Such as cobblestone or dirt. ONLY FILL THE TOP CHEST. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN THE BOTTOM CHEST OTHERWISE IT WON'T WORK. Once you filled the top chest, look in the bottom chest, there should only be one item in it.

7. Next, fill your dispenser with your prizes/goodies. Make sure you lay it out evenly. Outside the slot, put up some item frames to show the layout of the prizes in there.

8. Lastly, you want to put your chest shop sign! Shift and click with your sign on the front of the bottom chest, then type in this layout:

So, as many of you know, I've made plenty of signatures and avatars for many forums users. People have requested me tell them how to make them, which is quite difficult, so I decided to make this tutorial so that I can direct anyone else who asks to this.

I'm going to start by saying that in this case, practice makes perfect. I taught myself all of this, and it took me a loongg time, so don't be worried if you don't make good signatures your first try. It's nothing to be embarrassed about; you should see some of my first atrocities!

Okay, so to begin, I'm going to introduce you to my two best friends; pixlr.com and picmonkey.com. These two sites are my saviours; without them, you wouldn't see any of my signatures. I also have to pay my respects to google.ca and deviantart.com, as they are my image resources. I also use imgur.com to share my signatures.

Let's start this by pretending that someone has posted this;

This request is fairly simple, but it involves using my basic techniques.

GOOGLE​

Well, you always have to use a base, right? I start with a background, always. For this, I think an fiery background would be useful, so search whatever you want, then hit 'images'.

A word of advice; at this stage, you want to avoid watermarks (a sign of copyright) and generally, deviantart. While deviantart is good for textures, most backgrounds are not stock, and therefore copyrighted as well.


I like this one, so I click 'view image' on the right and then copy the url in the top box.

Tip: A stock image is an image that is essentially not protected by copyright; exactly the image we want!

PIXLR​

I normally start all my signatures with pixlr, depending on the request. Generally, I use pixlr for putting things on top of other pictures ie: adding an object, or adding textures. I also tend to start cropping here.

Okay. Let's grab that url we copied from earlier, and click 'Open image from URL' in Pixlr.


Tip: Ctrl + V on a PC will paste, while Command (Apple) + V on a mac will do the same.

Now that we have our image, we should crop it to the right size for a signature. Generally, I try to make them short and wide. The crop button should be automatically selected when you open pixlr, so if you draw the size you want to crop it to on the picture, then click anywhere else on the screen, then click yes, it cropped your picture!



Okay, now we need our Charmander! Generally, we want to find an image with a transparent background. This means, when searching, we should add 'transparent', 'transparent background', or 'png' to our search. However, for the sake of the tutorial, I'll show you how to erase a background.

Ah, I like this one! Copy it the same way you did with the background, but instead of selecting open image from url, mouse over 'Layer' and choose 'Open Layer from url'.




Uh oh, looks like my Charmander is way too big for my picture. Unfortunately, pixlr doesn't let you resize layers individually, so we have to delete Charmander and resize him a different way. To delete a layer, right click on it in the right-hand tool box, and then select 'Delete Layer'. Tip: If you don't have a right click button on a Mac, hold Ctrl and then left click it.

Now, with Pixlr, you can open more than one image at a time. Go to 'File' in the top left corner, and then click 'Open Image with Url'. Paste in Charmander's url, and hit Ok.



Now, if you move the charmander to the right a bit, you'll notice two little numbers by the bottom left corner of the background picture (Number x Number). The first number is width, and the second is height. Therefore, you want the height of your charmander to be a little less than that height. Hit 'Image', then 'Image Size', then in height, put a number a little bit lower than the height of your background.

Oh no! The return of the redirects!

On the old forums, I had created a forum thread on the original forums, describing how to move a thread properly, without an annoying redirect to the Archives, a place that the normal staff can't see. The problems: 90% of forum thread movements are to the archive, or Payne's Closet, as we call it. To avoid players clicking on these unnecessary and obsolete arrows that will lead them to a permission error, here is a basic tutorial I have written.
HOW TO MOVE THREADS AND NOT FAIL

Step 1:

Select the thread(s) that you would like moved through the multiple thread selector like this...

Step 2:

Select the "Move Threads" option on the drop down menu.


Step 3:

BE SURE to deselect the redirect option and click the one circled by a red line.


Select the forum you would like the thread to go, add an applicable prefix if necessary, and voila!

Step 4:

Bask in your glory of being able to move a thread properly.

Hi guys/gals, as I roamed the guides sub-forum, I discovered that no one had created a how to for the Meep TS (If they have I must be blind and I apologize).
I will be organizing this guide 4 parts,

• Install
• Setup
• Connect
• Navigate

1. Install

If you didn't know, TeamSpeak is a client that allows users to communicate through both voice, and text by joining "servers" that can be both privately and publicly hosted.

First to install it, you want to navigate to the TeamSpeak downloads page located here.
- Once there, you want to download either the 32/64 bit version of the client.

After you've successfully downloaded the installer; you wan't to run it. Beware: It's not an incredibly large install, but it may take longer for some users.

2. Setup

On the first run you will be prompted with the "Setup Wizard". This is where you will be able to configure the program to your liking, and setup your hot-keys along with your microphone and speaker settings. One thing to remember is your Nickname should be the same as your In-Game Name as this is required when connected to the Meep TS. -http://imgur.com/YIHpv4o

Once you have setup everything to your liking and have tested your Mic and Speakers you are ready to log-in to the Meep TeamSpeak server!

3. Connect

Your client is now open, and you're ready to connect. The first thing you want to do is click the tab on the top left of the TS client called "Connections". Once you have clicked this you're going to want to go one step further and click "Connect". -http://i.imgur.com/QOLelXg.png

Finally the home stretch to connecting to a server, if you located and clicked "Connect"; a new tab should have appeared on your screen with the fields "Server Address", "Nickname, and "Server Password". The only one of these fields you have to worry about at the moment is Server Address. What your going to want to do is delete the text already existing in that field and enter the Meep TS ip in that field- ts.meepcraft.com. Ex: http://i.imgur.com/DX1dt7s.png

Hopefully, if my instructions were anywhere decent you have connected to the Meep TeamSpeak!

4. Navigate

If you've completed the previous three steps then you are either sitting in the Lobby channel or are too good for this guide and have gone navigating the Meep TeamSpeak with ease. If you're asking yourself now, how do I begin talking with people- well that's an easy answer!

The first "Channel" that a user logs into when joining a TS server is usually the "Lobby" server. On Meep, the Lobby server is muted to all users so you have to join another channel to begin voice chatting. Note: This is a Windows tutorial, I'm sure the Mac install must not be much different but as I am not a mac user I do not know.

Last night I was doing modreqs, and saw one asking how to make a chest shop. The way I would do this back when I was a moderator, is send them the link of a wonderful chest shop tutorial that I believe.... Sneekers created. (May be wrong. I kind of forgot)

I then wondered, do we have a tutorial on this? I looked through the forums, and found none. So here is one.

I am not very experienced with chest shops, so if I got anything wrong, please correct me in the replies, and I'll edit this.


Chest Shops

There are a couple things required of you before you can have chest shop. I'll list them below.

-You must be in a town
-You must have a plot in said town
-That plot must be set as a shop by an assistant or mayor. Command: /plot set shop

Now comes the tricky part. After you get a plot, place a chest against a wall, and place a sign directly above it.

It should look like this.



After you have done this, you will need to fill out the sign in this order:



So in the end, your sign above your chest should look like this.



What this means is that I, LR_Davius am selling one stone, for 10 meebles. If you created the shop correctly, you should receive this message:


Now this is going to get really tricky. You can also have a sell option on a chest shop where a player can sell things to you! You would need to format it like this.



What this means is that I am selling stone for 10 meebles a piece. However, if someone would like to sell stone to me, they can, and I will automatically purchase it for 5 meebles a piece through the chest shop.


Now that we've seen how to create a chest shop, let's look at how to buy/sell from it.

This is me, on my brothers account, at the same shop.

I went up to the shop, and right clicked to purchase one stone from... Myself...



Notice the auto message "You bought 1 Stone from LR_Davius." The stone went directly into my inventory.

Since I set up the shop to sell as well, I left clicked on the shop, and sold back what I had purchased, losing 5 meebles because of the price.



Notice again, "You sold 1 stone to LR_Davius for 5 meebles."

The stone went out of my inventory and into the chest.

Things to remember about chest shops:
-You stock the shop by putting items into the chest
-Meebles are added to your account even when you are offline
-Meebles are deducted from your account even when you are offline
-Items that people sell to you will be added into the chest
-If your shop is out of stock you won't be able to sell anything

I believe I have adressed all the important things to know about chest shops. Again if I missed something, please include it in the replies so I can edit my post accordingly.
