I have heard this a lot lately and I have both sides to this. In 2013 about 3,154 people die by distracted-related crashes, such as cell phones. About 424,000 people get injured due to distracted-related crashes. Though, in 2014, 9,967 people were killed due to drunk driving. I don't know which is more dangerous, Im interested in reading your opinions.

Well if more people die due to drunk driving wouldn't it be safe to assume drunk driving is worse?

Yes, there may be more deaths, but there is so many debates on which is worse.

with texting at least you are more aware of the situation. Your reaction time and visibility etc is still the same, you're just distracted. Some people won't text while driving unless there are back roads and no one is around.

When you're drunk you're so much less aware of the situation, your vision isn't all right, your brain is fuzzy and your reaction time is so much worse.

in an emergency someone who's texting can sometimes move out of a situation. A drunk guy very probably won't be able to.

I'm willing to bet that some drunk drivers could be so "out of it" that they might go all YOLO and actually cause the incident

With drunk driving you're somewhat aware of your surroundings, but everything is blurry and messed up all together. You're not thinking as you should, which makes it a lot more dangerous. If you're texting you're ignorant and distracted of your surroundings but atleast you have the capability to understand what's going on. You may be focused on the phone, but it just takes a click to turn if off and drive happily (unless you're seconds away from crashing). If you're drunk you can't simply just transition to being drunk to driving normally as you could more easily accomplish while texting.

I came here to say that texting and driving is obviously worse, but then reconsidered. Both of them are bad, since they both achieve the same possible result: car crashes, and maybe death. The saddest thing is that both of these are very much preventable, it's just that some people just can't wait to check their phone, and others don't know when to stay away from a car when drunk. These aren't uncontrollable at all. The only limits are age limits, where you can only get drunk at a certain age and drive at a certain age. But that's as far as the limits go! After you hit a certain age, those limits are gone, and you are free to do whatever you want, smart or stupid. Theoretically this shouldn't need to be discussed because we're generally all sensible people, but it is because there are some people that ruin it for everyone.

No, because there could be 100x more drunk drivers.

Well, don't be mislead by numbers. More deaths wouldn't really mean one is worse than the other -- it could just mean one of more common than the other.

But I still think drunk driving is worse. With texting, there's a better chance you'll be able to react if something were to happen. You'd be sober, so your body is functioning normally. With drunk driving, you just wouldn't be able to react in time because you're intoxicated.
