What was the best version of Minecraft?

Anyone else find it ironic we have an entire section for debates on a Minecraft server forums, yet not one of them has anything to do with Minecraft itself? Anyways, I believe this will be an interesting topic, as it's hard to be offended because somebody likes a different version of a video game we all play . . . if you are, just don't even bother opening the Debates sub-forum. Anyways, on to the discussion. Please state which version you feel was the best/most fun and why.

Once I updated to 1.6, I loaded a singeplayer world to spawn lots of horses.

was Minecraft classic the 'free demo' on the minecraft website? I used to play that thing for months, and would loose my world every time lol

 

I like the one that allowed my stairs to connect at the corner, which ever that was.

 

Horse update. I remember the hype my town mayor and I had over getting horses to our town. Only problem was, our town was in the middle of the ocean.

 

1.8 was one of the only updates that I was hyped about because of the blocks/items like flowers, hay blocks, different stones, armor stands, etc that were added.

 

1.8 combat wasn't ruined

 

I remember the whole server getting so hyped and buying individual horses for like 200k xD

 

The "Free Demo" had two different versions. You can tell which version it was by the graphics.

Minecraft Classic
This was the first kind of the game. You could break blocks, you could place blocks. There were no monsters, no health, no gamemodes (survival and creative were split later), and quite literally, nothing but hills and trees.

In this version, you have five Minecraft days to get as far as possible. It loaded the same map every time, with different spawn points. People took it as a challenge to beat the Ender Dragon within the time limit (and did it too; some people have no lives). That would be The Pretty Scary Update (1.4). Interesting thing about stairs, they used to be transparent, but blocked weather.

 

My favorite was Alpha 1.6. That's when they added pistons, and before Endermen were added.

 

Whichever version allowed us to place and destroy blocks. Man, I remember when that was added people were so hyped.

I really like 1.9. Sure pvp sucks, but I really enjoy the elytra. The only thing I really don't like about pvp are the hit cooldowns. I'm good with just about everything else!

 

I used to play the Minecraft Classic servers, like the survival ones. Where a wave of lava was coming, and you had to protect yourself from getting burned.

 

1.7 is before PvP began going downhill so personally I prefer 1.7

1.8 isn't actually all that terrible for PvP but blockhitting for example looks disgusting compared to 1.7. Also you can't do the hitting animation while drinking pots which looked nice, so it sucks that that's gone. And when you could punch and draw back with the bow at the same time, the animation looked cool for that too.

I haven't tried 1.9 myself so I'm not going to bother saying it ruined PvP.

Of course I'm only looking at the combat side of things and Minecraft is a sandbox game so what does it matter what I think

 

The very day after I say this, 1.10 is released
In case you're all scratching your heads wondering why it's out so soon, I will refer to my brother who has been playing the snapshots since their individual releases.

It adds more compact forms of storage for bone meal and Nether wart, redesigns villages in other biomes, adds a cheaper form of Nether Brick, introduces the magma block (This is the best or second best block in 1.10), and enables structure blocks (basically world edit in vanilla made easy)."
Minecraft in general is moving more towards pleasing the mapmakers, coders, builders, and engineers. It is moving away from the combat aspect, which Microsoft apparently doesn't like.

With the recent update, I believe this thread does have some value again. So, include 1.10 into the 1.9 option for that.

I feel like 1.10 is pretty good, but only the combat holds it back. I love how infected villagers show their profession before you cure them, the new blocks, more/changed structures, and a lot better mechanics for everything outside of combat. I think if Microsoft removed played-pushing and the combat changes, most people would be happy.

 

I will say 1.9 when combat was fixed. Cue quotes and turns post into pvp page. No i really love 1.10 atm, nothing beats elytra!

Why should we only cater to these before update "pvpers"?
