    Hello,

I always assumed that hacking was a perm ban on first offense because of the sign at the kit spawn, however when I was reading random old ban appeals (yes i read ban appeals for fun) all the way up to present day ban appeals, this seems not to be the case. I could be wrong but it seems like its only a 7 day temp ban for hackers on there first offence, which as someone who enjoys pvp and has to deal with hackers daily this seems dumb, I can understand temp banning for things like language, toxicity, and other stuff on first offense, as they are things that are allowed on some other servers. However hacking is absolutely cheating, nobody downloads hacks thinking "everyone on the server will think im so cool because i have hacks" they download it thinking that they can succeed on servers easily without having to try, its not something that you could accidentally do or not really think you were doing, if you hack, you are cheating and you know it, so theirs no reason to give a wimpy temp ban, because chances are they will just hack again in 7 days. A 7 day temp ban gives no reason to appeal, its a half assed punishment that wont make them think about what they are doing and change, and ultimately isn't that why you punish people? to get them to change and stop the behavior that they were doing before?

I know that there are probably reasons for why its only 7 days, and theres probably lots of stuff I don't know.

From an outsider standpoint it makes sense - you break the rules you get the boot. However, you need to remember that the majority of the player base are kids and don't know the harsh consequences yet, especially not on a Minecraft server. The rate at which hackers even return is pretty low anyways, and if they do they tend to not hack anymore. I like this policy because it shows that we are forgiving and we aren't turning away kids who just made a dumb mistake.

When I was staff I felt that perms for hacking 1st offense were harsh, I like the 7 day policy we have now. -1

I assumed it was a perm ban too. But I like the 7 day idea the server has.

it also proves that youre loyal if you come back. in other words youre more likely to stay. if you come on just to hack and get banned and go to the next, you probably wont care to check if u got unbanned.

Several people who have been banned for hacking for 7d have come back and spent a good time on the server.
Others come back to hack again and we deal with them and it's no real big deal for us.

    The policy is fine.

It might not be a big deal for you, you just come, spend a few minutes recording and then ban, but for us, the players who are pvp-ing because they think its fun, it is a big deal because it takes awhile for the modreq process to happen, and that whole time its not fun for us, we can either keep throwing ourselves at the hacker in hopes that he gets satisfied or something, or wait until a mod comes, and then wait until a mod records, and then wait until the mod bans.

On average, I can ban a player within 5 minutes of the modreq being filed. it is not a long time. I ban as soon as I have reasonably evidence, literally as soon as I turn my software off.
Longest I've seen done since I was staff is like 10-15. Again, not long, a hell of a lot better than it used to be.

Along with the fact that I've only seen like... three total second offense hacker bans by all staff the entire month I have been staff.
We're doing the best we can and I don't think making this a perm ban will make as much of a difference as you think.

The change from permanent bans to temporary bans has definitely been a change for the better. We did everything that seemed possible to improve the efficiency and quality of hacking cases, for staff, players, and the hackers alike. It improved the average time it took to catch a hacker down to mere minutes as Monkey previously stated. I'm sure there can be some tweaks to the policy, but it's definitely something that should be decided by staff since they know all the intricacies.

Reverting the changes in the policy would actually increase the time it takes to catch hackers.

I've always been very extreme about the belief that hackers need to be removed perm on first offense.

This post, however, shows otherwise imo. Instead, I think we should extend liars' bans to perm (if they lie on their appeal), but let the people who say "I'm sorry, it was stupid" get another chance.
