I have a debate topic that i have been wondering about that people can post about even if I may not be the most active person so I may not be posting at all in it.

Is it possible that someone feels the passing of time significantly different then someone else.
As in a second for person #1 is a lot more longer then it is for person #2.

Sorry if it turns out there is nothing to debate about but this seems like an interesting question for a bunch of smart people to ponder so I figured why not post it here, where I recall people making some really educated posts when I was last on?

Of course! Time can feel as if it's flowing differently all the time. In reality, it's always the same. Reading a book, for instance, makes time fly for a lot of people. On the other hand, sitting in a classroom can make time feel as if it's barely moving at all. It is always passing though, always at the same rate, no matter who you are.

To me, it depends how you distract yourself to spend time. Whenever I draw, it feels like 15 minutes or so have passed, but I check time and it's almost been an hour.

I recently had performed four concerts (lasted from 5 PM - almost midnight) last weekend and it felt like it whizzed by me. I asked other singers that I knew about how they felt about the concerts. Some said it was really long for them, others said it went quick.

So, basically, others went along with the flow of the concerts. Others didnt and felt like it lasted forever. Like I said before, it depends on how you choose to spend time or how you distract yourself.

But Einsteins theory of special relativity states that time isn't always the same :/

Actually, the rate of time isn't necessarily constant. Firstly, there are two kinds of time: local time and universal time. Local time is all based on relativity. An example of this would be getting on a plane in New York at 4:00, traveling for an hour, and touching down in Chicago at 4:00. By local time, he has traveled instantly, but it still has taken an hour in universal time.

Now, put it on a larger scale. The rate at which time passes is affected by gravity, meaning that areas of the universe have their own local time, as well. In theory, it is possible to go somewhere else in the universe for 3 years, and come back to find only an hour has passed on earth (ignoring travel times).

When it comes to how time appears to flow to individual people, it's really a matter of opinion. It is still flowing at the same rate because it is based on the same local time. Therefore, it really is the same amount of time to everyone, but their internal body clocks are tracking it differently.

We're all on the same "gravitating mass" though.

    ... all masses gravitate.
If you mean we are experiencing the same gravity, no. Different regions of the earth experience slightly different gravity based on the density and mass of the rocks below them.
Also depending on where you are standing (Poles, Equator) you could be moving at about a 1500km/h difference.

I know that some people are in space right now, but it's such a small number when compared to those who aren't that it's negligible.
I was answering this question under the assumption that we're talking about two people in the same room together.

Time is technically relative... I believe a bunch of psychologists or something proved it a while ago... I don't remember exactly, but the point was that wen doing something enjoyable time seems to fly, but while doing something boring, unpleasant, or nasty it seems to stand still.

In other words, they spent a bunch of money to figure out that what we already knew to be true, is. Time flies when you're having fun, but a watched pot never boils.

I was thinking earlier how were always looking into the past because of speed of light, and how what we see is always the past and tgat you're truly alone in your time and no one is ever in sync

Time travels differently for certain people (IMO) due to what you are doing. If you are doing something really boring and find no interest in (like my accounting class or journalism class) it goes by really slow. However when I'm in my art class or economics class it goes by pretty quickly because I enjoy doing it. Same for hobbies, some people enjoy reading a book, it helps pass time but for others who hate reading it makes it feel like it goes by so slow.

Another thing is when you watch the clock. When you are constantly watching the clock it seems like it takes forever. As they say a watched pot never boils.

Then if you have something really fun about to happen. Say a friend is flying into town. You are so excited for them to get here that the time feels like it's going by so slow.

And other things too but these are the biggest for me....

I feel like how fast time goes for someone is based on whether their attention is kept (such as enjoying what you are doing) or if you are focused.

I found it interesting and related to mention the fact that professional baseball players often tell about being able to focus so well that the ball seems to come at them as if it were in slow motion compared to the fact that the balls are really flying at around 90+ mph.

Besides, "time is a figment of your imagination"
