Blue, #2 is misleading. Sure, a few scientists can be wrong. But 97% of climate scientists is a large group. It's literally got so many people who study this affirming it, it's very unlikely that every single study is wrong.

If 97% of scientists say one thing, and only 3% say another, and you don't have proof of motive to explain why the 97% would be lying, then why wouldn't you side with the majority.

 

Actually, proponents of climate change happen to be employed to study the harmful effects of climate change. In other words: No climate change, no job, no funding. Additionally, the link between CO2 and warming isn't so great... Does CO2 correlate with temperature history? – A look at multiple timescales in the context of the Shakun et al. paper

If you look at the graphs it's definite that there is a correlation, but not necessarily a causal link (I look to the point in the graph where temperature increases before CO2)

Anyway, what we do know is that the earth is warming. We're also in an ice age. The earth will warm whether we want it to or not, so instead of futilely trying to stop it we should probably look for ways to deal with it.

That's how most funding works, you get money from someone to study something, then you present your conclusions.

Global warming is a myth and the ice caps are not melting. I have ice in my freezer and they don't melt.

Exactly. And which conclusion do you think is going to get you more funding to do more research?
1) "Oh, there's really no problem."
or
2) "We're all going to die if we don't fix this!"

 

Well if they find that theirs no problem then they can go do more research on something different. As long as the scientists aren't being bankrolled by corporations (I know some of them are by solar panel companies and stuff, but the overwhelming majority aren't) then I don't really think we should distrust them.
