A little background: the software behind Meep can be described as follows: layer 1 (Java) -> layer 2 (Minecraft) -> layer 3 (Spigot) -> layer 4 (Meep). If a lower layer updates, we have to also update the upper layers. When layer 2 updates, we have to wait for the Spigot developers to update their end so that we can update layers 3 and 4. Sometimes we can do this with a protocol patch (like our update from 1.12.1 to 1.12.2, when there aren't massive block changes). However, this patch hasn't been as fruitful because the update to layer 2 was so massive.

At the same time, I (and soon, the rest of the dev team) have been working on a massive overhaul of layer 4. We know that Meepers are anxious for the developers to implement brand new plugins, so instead of wasting time by updating layer 3, patching layer 4, and later updating layer 4, we plan instead to roll out both at the same time after vigorous testing. The main purpose of this is to decrease the lag on the server by implementing a mesh network (direct world-to-world data connections) in an attempt to remove global lag caused by the virtual network bottleneck. This has been a work in progress for the last several months.

tl;dr: Thanks for your patience! The 1.13 upgrade is a huge one, we're working hard to make sure it's done right.

 

Cool, so we're going to call "downgrading the client" a quick fix for now, expect this to be fixed when we upgrade the server.
