Not a whole lot, just been researching building a desktop for myself. Thinking of going with a Skylake i5-6600k and a gtx 960. How are things over on your side?

Not too bad. Truck blew up so I'm workin to fix it. I'd go for a 4690 + a 970/R9 380X if I were you. Haswell refresh is cheaper and preforms fine, and a 960 isn't enough gpu to pair with an i5.

Did make a mistake there, the 4690k is $14 cheaper.

Also, sorry to hear about your truck. I hope it is not a large expensive fix. :(

I think you should go with an AMD GPU over a 960, honestly. If you didn't go with an i5, grab the cheapest dual core quad thread i3 you can find.

Expensive fix, but hey, it was gonna happen sometime.

Aw dude, sorry to hear that. Thanks for the info man, I'll do a bit more research on the AMD side of things. I've also been looking into i3s. The 6100 seems to be better than the Hazwell ones and it even compares decently to the i5 4460.

Those two extra threads do make up for the lack of 4 cores in a lot of situations. You'll still hit a CPU bottleneck sooner, but it's better than hitting a GPU bottleneck for sure.

Also if you're spending that much money on a keyboard, you may as well get a mechanical one, ya know?

I'll totally take a look into all of this, I really appreciate it. For an ATX build, wouldn't you need some sort of wireless adapter?

Also, is there a reason you went with a TN monitor? IPS seems to be the way to go in my experience, but I would love to hear your opinions on the matter.

Final question I swear lol. Why would you pick a 380X over a 960? All the research I have done shows that at 1080p there is no distinguishable difference in performance.
