Applications

Has anyone noticed that some of the people who are applying have some pretty small applications? Don't get me wrong, but if you look at Miku's, just for reference, it seemed pretty good, because he went into details and talked a bit more on why they want to become helper. Some applications just go straight to why they want to be a staff member. No offense. But these go on the most popular people. And I know, I know, that the most active people have a higher chance to be a part of the staff team, but still. Small. Just something to say. Not wanting hate. But I'll take some loving poisoned cake if you have any.

 

Size is not the whole story. It could be a small yet very informative and "to the point" application. Why have a long winded 2 million word essay describing what can be done in less than 100?

I find it petty when people judge applications by size rather than quality.

Applications aren't supposed to be accepted or denied based off of app length. It's more of what the content is. It's not ideal to make an app with a bunch of fillers to make it longer, because you aren't straight to the point. I agree, maybe some of these apps are rather short and that they could be worked on, but again, size should not matter, content should.

 

Yes, I understand that quantity isn't everything in this world, but some people go into depth, they say a bit more on why they want to helper, or go to mod, or media, or archs. People are saying things about themselves that others probably don't know about. I sometimes feel that when people go on and talk about what they do, what they love and hate, deserve a chance. Something like that. Not just by being active. I mean, activity isn't really anything. Just helping out others is good, doing kind stuff. And being on ya here and there.

Sorry for saying Miku is a girl. XD It's 12:39 here anyways.

Look at your application for example. You talk about your life, what you love to do, what your specific weaknesses are. Some don't do that. Of course they talk about their hobbies and stuff, but they don't go into detail like you. You deserved helper because you can see it by how you say your story about joining meep. That should at least be mentioned.

Of course, your application isn't the only reason why you got helper, but because of activity, being helpful, and lovable. Some people try being helpful *cough* cleaves *cough* and show kindness in meep. I haven't seen some people who have done apps really help others. They just be funny and lovable.

See, you liked my post. XD You just don't get many people who show that they really want helper or any other type of staff. Only popularity would really get them it.
Take me for example! If I applied for staff, I know who'll take me down. *cough* munkee *cough* I'm not really active in chat, even though I try. I try my best to help out others, and if someone died,or lost their stuff,I give them some of mine. Of course I wouldn't get accepted not just because of activity, but cause of time. But I'd put my whole best into an app, and I'd explain why I'd want helper, so much that it'll take a whole page long (it really wouldn't, probs a paragraph, lel).

I don't agree with you, before you have to have a lengthy yet strong application, I don't know really what happened to applications though. It seems now that as long as you're friendly, new to the server and you've done nothing bad to it, you'll get a good reputation, people will support you for staff.

Well you can't just have a one sentence section in your why part e.g I wanna be staff because I like helping. That's just too short, doesn't explain anything really. What I'm trying to say is that this isn't like College where you have to write a 10 page essay, but just don't force yourself to write more on your application if it's only two paragraphs. If you do force yourself to write more then you'll tend to make up things and the rest of it won't be as honest. I advise, don't spend more than a day (or two) to write your application. Pack in as much information without re-stating things you have already said, because that happens to a few applicants. Like Elsa said, it's the content that matters but also, if you do write a long application I guess it could show how dedicated you are into writing this application to become staff.

 

I kind of feel that people knowing my life story just so that I can slave away answering a sea of modreqs where you will run into frequent problems that could easily be solved if there were adequate tools for moderating and solving problems.

As a rough example, as far as I know. There is absolutely no way to see the transaction history for a town's balance. Imagine when a player says money was taken out, as far as I was told. There is no way to confirm that from an official non 3rd party way. In the sense that you can only go by screenshots.

Or, another one would be leaving out a grey area in luring. I was told by staff and ex-staff that there is no way to tell rather or not it was a case of self defence or an intentional lure.

Just for an example. I tpa to a player to buy a spawner in the wild. And for the heck of boredom sake, he shoots a bow at me but misses. How am I to defend my self and prove that I did in fact defend my self and not initiate the hit if hits delivered and stuff like that are not reported. I mean sure, if the person has a recording program they can cover their butts.

But without it it is just a "he said, she said" kind of thing.

This is both in response to the whole staff thing and to a PM as to some problems that people run into and to answer the question I keep getting asked as to why I only ever applied once way back when.

I hate people listing "length" as an issue with an application. I think when people say this they really mean "content." If your application is well written, then you have written enough for there to be little question of why you want to be a staff member and what you are capable of.

Your application should cover what the question asks in enough detail to answer it fully. Thats it. Someone tell you your app isn't long enough to tell em to shove it. Answer the questions.

I mean, this post could act as a way for applicants to understand it's not all about length, but mainly on content and what we know of that player already, whether they're good or bad, helpful or not. Follow the app guide and do what you're suppose.
