With Ryzen around the corner and Vega being teased a bit, how do you feel about the future AMD? Do you think Ryzen will be as good as they say and stomp Intel? Do you think Vega will beat out Nvidia's Pascal? Which would you prefer in a computer?

Personally, I am skeptical but hopeful. We definitely need the competition for innovation and to drive prices down but AMD has made big claims and fallen flat over the past couple of years. I just know I am tired of waiting and want to see what AMD has to offer. I'm pretty neutral in the AMD vs Intel and AMD vs Nvidia wars but I am a fan of underdogs and competition so I will definitely be rooting for AMD this time.

Excited to see how well these new chips will do. Especially considering how underwhelming Skylake has been.

Ryzen is a lot of hype and advertising. It isn't going to be amazing, so don't give your hopes up.

They are keeping too many facts from us, which indicates that it will have plenty of cons. They only show extremely specific benchmarks that suit their CPU's, and they do not allow anyone to show FPS or results in real world applications. They are also keeping their price very secretive. If these were all great, AMD would be bragging about them and advertising them, not hiding.

I am guessing ryzen's main improvement will be reducing their power intake and TDP. This would make more powerful chips much more viable for laptops and tablets, and it would keep them cooler in desktops. On top of this, it will allow them to make more powerful CPU's. Expect this to be the headline of ryzen, not extreme performance gains.

I am speculating that intel will have ryzen beat on single core performance per dollar, but ryzen's multicore performance per dollar will surpass intel's. Maybe depending on what you use the CPU for, one option might be better than the other.

Best case scenario for ryzen is that it becomes competetive with intel for its edge in certain applications. It is definitely not going to crush intel and make all of its processors null like some want.

As ^ said, secretiveness isn't usually without a reason.

They'll be good, don't set high expectations at all, though. (my opinion)

I completely understand. My expectations are low but I do hope they produce something that actually gets them back into the market. More competition is better for the consumers.

Thank you for your consideration for applying on meepcraft.com. However, we have decided to deny your appeal due to the fact that you did not specify which chips you prefer. Knowing which chips you love is very important information that must be mentioned, because if you like ketchup chips and you get accepted...

How does everyone feel about Ryzen now that most of the chips have been released?

I heard AMD is thinking about open sourcing their firmware (the equivalent of Intel's Management Engine). This would prevent CPU back-doors and be more ethical.

Someone from AMD actually made a comment on this during the AMA they had on Reddit in March. He said they are not currently planning on releasing source code but that a lot of users made good points as to why they should that are being taken into consideration.

I personally would like to see this as I play around on Linux quite a bit.

As for Ryzen performance, I am overall extremely impressed. I was expecting it to be much cheaper than intel but a lot worse. Instead, they delivered a product at a much lower cost that has a negligible difference or out performs intel for much less. I will say their launch was done poorly and they stretched the truth a lot but I am still overall impressed with how they did.

How does everyone else feel about Threadripper and Epyc? I think Epyc was poorly named because it is supposed to be for servers in businesses but it sounds like the name of a 1337 gam3r k1d. I also really liked the name Naples. Idk, I might just be nitpicking but it doesn't sound professional enough to me.
