Bump Stocks

Bump Stocks. Should they be legal or not?

(if you don't know what a bump stock is, google it before you post, thanks. A bump stock essentially gives a semi-automatic rifle automatic capabilities, a fire rate buff which nerf accuracy. Is it too OP?)

My opinion; bump stocks should be 100% legal (with the regular stipulations of buying any firearm or firearm part). Here's why;

1 - Cost. Semi-automatic rifles are expensive. So are bump stocks. So are ammunition.

2 - Accuracy. If you can't hit anyone, nobody's going to die. That simple. Bump stocks make aiming a rifle incredibly difficult. Unless you were firing into a large group, you're unlikely to kill or even seriously injure anyone (besides, for large groups pipe bombs prove cheaper, easier, and more effective)

3 - Freedom. Bump stocks do not make a gun fully automatic. Therefore, they do not violate United States law as-is.

I'm interested in your opinions on the matter. However, this is not the place for a general firearms debate. Try to keep it to bump stocks.

That doesn't matter if you're firing into a massive crowd. Most shootings are like this, firing into a crowd.
(See the Vegas shooting, in which the shooter utilized a bump stock killed 59 and injured almost a thousand)

Cost doesn't matter, people will find a way.

That doesn't mean it's right. Slavery was supported under US law for nearly a century.

 

A bump stock cannot make a semi automatic firearm automatic

 

Bump firing is effectively impossible while under stress or while moving. It’s only effective when in a stationary position with no need to aim. Bump firing doesn’t necessitate a stock and even with a stock requires training. For perspective the military only gives a select group of specialists automatic weapons in combat roles, opting for burst and semiautomatic weapons for the majority of soldiers.

A pipe bomb would have caused less casualties. The shooter shot almost 500 people. A pipe bomb could've reached at most 50 and would not have gotten in because of security. The only reason the casualties were so high as he was unable to be seen as the gun w/ a bump stock allowed him to shoot without being stopped by any security measures.
