Introduction: I’m Mike. You might recognize me as Michael, “that weird nerdy guy,” or “the dude who got demoted twice for bad stuff.” Or, you may have interacted with one of my many alts, in which case I hope you had a positive experience.
Besides MeepCraft, in my free time, I enjoy various activities, among them teaching, reading, playing the piano, biking, and (as Queentiitan can attest to), failing to quench my insatiable desire for basketball (though I'm still not that good). As mentioned in my previous applications, this is my third consecutive summer teaching math to high-schoolers without the resources to get help or tutoring. Additionally, I had the opportunity to join a church service trip to serve homeless individuals for a week, which was a truly eye-opening experience. While it may seem as if these activities are contained in my memory, I seek to apply the knowledge and skills I acquired to my actions in other areas of life, in this case MeepCraft. If you're really interested in stalking my personal life, please get therapy (or look at my other applications, but don't stalk me too hard).
Why should you be Helper? As mentioned above, I have a somewhat extensive teaching background, as I've taught math to high-schoolers for three years, and I've taught piano to younger children for two years. My experience teaching youth of various ages (from eight to 18), leads me to feel I'd be at home as a helper, since I already have dealt with numerous youth and children in the past. Additionally, as a helper, my job would be primarily to answer questions and to encourage players to learn more about the server. Oftentimes, one might think that helpers (or teachers) should “teach” people material—after all, we are called “teachers,” right? However, as I've matured, I've learned that it's actually best to encourage individuals to learn on their own—to plant the seed of curiosity, if you'll forgive the cliché, that drives and motivates us to give back to the community. Basically, (long story short, TLR, or whatever floats your boat), I will encourage people to contribute to the community.
Similarly, I maintain positive interactions with community members. I've found that I can get along with (or at least tolerate) most everyone, a quality no doubt shaped by the multitude of interactions I've had with individuals outside Meep. During my last two runs as helper, I became very comfortable with the playerbase, a trait that eventually led to my demotions—as I was caught swearing and leaking confidential information, respectively. However, I've learned from these demotions, and am now able to retain a positive relationship with players whilst retaining my professionalism. As a staff member, I will seek to bridge the growing gap between staff and players, which is a major problem plaguing MeepCraft today.
I’ve been demoted twice: my first demotion was a culmination of language and small issues that built up over time, and the second demotion was leaking confidential information to a community member. Through these demotions, I've learned to maintain my professionalism while being friendly in my interactions with the community. Additionally, I’ve matured significantly in the 9 months since my last run as staff, and feel that I'm better suited for a staff role than I was. Specifically, I've learned, mostly through another year of teaching, how to be an authority figure to peers while being relatable to them.
Additionally, throughout both of my runs as staff, I've learned to work with individuals I don't necessarily see eye-to-eye with. While I might not necessarily agree with the other individual, I’m able to see their perspective, and usually resolve issues effectively.
On a more technical note, I have expertise banning the PvP hackers who inhabit nearly every Minecraft server. As a former hacker myself, I know which red flags to look for, and can therefore resolve issues quickly and efficiently. Similarly, I already am trained in prism, and therefore can contribute to the staff team immediately.
What are your weaknesses? Most mornings, I wake up, look in the mirror, and tell myself I'm perfect. Alas, I, like every human (despite what you might think, I too am human) have weaknesses too.
Oftentimes, I can be too blunt. While this may manifest itself as a positive quality fairly often, I sometimes lack tact in my rhetoric, which occasionally causes discussions to escalate. In other words, I can be well-intentioned troll, if such a thing exists. Similarly, oftentimes I'm overly harsh, which leads to similar results. However, I've been working to lessen the amount of confrontations I cause, and I’d like to say it's been pretty successful (though I'll let you judge for yourself).
Additionally, I tend to have a hard time letting debates go. I'll frequently ramble on long after everyone else has tired of a given discussion. While I'm working on this issue in real life, its hard to convey tone and drop hints via text, which can lead to some friction between me and team members. Nevertheless, it's something I will continue to work on.
TS activity—I don't really like TS, honestly. I can do interviews and meetings, and moderate as needed, but it's not (and will never be) an aspect of MeepCraft I'll use frequently.
Please give any other information you might think is useful for us to know: I don't have access to Eggwall01 and swimchezney anymore.
