    This may seem odd but most people cant eat in 1.9 at certain times! :( I oddly figured out how to eat and it works on most people!
    All You need to do is hold your jump key down then look down and up really fast and make your mouse go crazy while eating! Its really odd but works for many people!

    Or you could go back to 1.8.9 and eat normally as well as let everything else function fine because 1.9 is so buggy
