Minecraft 1.9 Thoughts?

I'm sure a lot of people have gone onto a single player world to try out 1.9 and take a look at all the new items, but if you haven't you really really need to. I was originally against 1.9 for the pure fact that a lot of my time spent on Meepcraft was combat orientated and people made it sound as though 1.9 is the death of combat which it cerainly isn't, it is the death of PVP as we know it, but it looks as though its going to open up a new better PVP - anyway that's not what this thread is about. I just wanted to put out there that 1.9 is looking really good, especially the Elytra, I just had a play around with them, along with the shield and it looks amazing. Not to mention the end crystals - hopefully Meepcraft implements a plug in like the one that Ender Eggs have preventing them from being hit because they would make really really nice additions to fantasy builds and just to use as building blocks and decoration, we all know about all the cool stuff people come up with. I think I can safely safe for once that It's starting to look up for Minecraft, this is one of my favorite updates that it's had!

Anyway, I'm wondering what people think of the Elytra, Ender Crystals, Shield and all the different arrows, along with the rest of the update? I'm curious if people think Meepcraft should update, because I've read and been hearing that a lot of servers are opting out of it, Hypixel being the only one I know of that's making the leap.

 

I would just love 1.9 if they didn't ruin pvp, rip 2v1 rip montages rip PVP

 

I'm excited for the update, it's been a while since we've had an update and it's always exciting to see what is added into the game.

The elytra kind of pissed me off. They are so rare, yet they break so fast. It took me 9 straight hours to get to the end and get the elytra and within 30 min *poof*, they were gone. I was doubtful of the new PvP system at first, mostly because I've just recently discovered my clicks per second is 18. But, this is a way more skill-orientated system as opposed to whoever can click the fastest (in most cases).

 

You can repair the Elytra with Leather, and enchant it with Unbreaking and Mending. And they don't just disappear, they stop at 1 durability and stop functioning. Then you repair it with Leather or XP, via Mending.

Don't complain about things until you've done research on them.

 

How do you use the Elytra?

 

Climb to the top of a cliff or something, then as you are falling, hold space. It's easier in survival because it's common to accidentally fly.

 

I don't like to look things up when I play games, get off your high horse for a little.

 

there are absolutely no built in tutorials on minecraft besides Xbox so you must have done some research to play the game

 

I don't see how this ruins pvp to be honest. Inb4 I get rekt by a "pro pvper" that explains to me all the reasons it's bad even though he hasn't actually played 1.9.

 

it seems that the main reason is because the attack cool downs make fights last too long, but honestly I see no difference

I feel like there are more fighting styles than there were before. You could be an average sword and shield or a tank with a diamond axr(which does more damage but you can't attack as fast)

or you could be a potion master or archer. There's so much more than healing pots and God weapons.

I mean, you could hold a sword and a bow at the same time. It's awesome!

 

I like 1.9! being someone that "does not partake" in PVP, I like the new items just cause they are new.

Wait, you make no sense. You say you did all this and the Elytra disappeared. Yet when told that the Elytra doesn't disappear, you don't comment? Not trying to pressure you or anything, just a little confused.

Right! The point of the thread.
On pvp terms, I personally love it. Combat will be more interesting, will require more strategy, and will also generally look better.
The Elytra is great. I did some glider battles with my friends, it was awesome.
Everything else is nice changes. New enchantments, shields, all the things.

You don't even need to look up things to repair the Elytra. Experiment a bit.

Oh, my Elytra hit 1 durability, and its texture changed? That must mean there's some use for it. Maybe I can repair it? What material could I use to repair wings? Perhaps Leather? Leather would make sense, it's light, easy to work with, and could possibly be made into a wing. Let's try it!

Or alternatively, since the Elytra is a tool/piece of armor, and all tools and armor can be enchanted, you could see if it can be enchanted with anything. Hey, let's try a Unbreaking 3 book, or even that new Mending book! Shoot, I might even throw it in an enchanting table, just for giggles.

My high horse thinks that you enjoy jumping to conclusions rather than experimenting or researching.

 

I mean, you cant fire the bow and use the sword at the same time, but yeah there are a crapton of more fighting styles that I am excited for.

I'm torn about 1.9. Tbh I don't like how they handled the combat. I feel since it has been the same way for so long, it wouldn't make sense to change it. Just my opinion though. Other than that, everything seems pretty good besides the mob buff. It seems mobs have gotten a bit more powerful and are actually challenging now
