Introduction: My name is Mitch. I go to the University of Wisconsin and I am double-majoring in Neurobiology and Psychology. I hope to be a life coach in the future. I like to record music too.

I started playing Meep in December 2012 and played off and on throughout. I became a Mod a while back now and then resigned because it was too much work to handle for me and still do the job as it should be done. Here are my previous applications (both accepted). Helper Application from Foretvert Moderator Application from Foretvert

I'm interested in putting aside time to code for Meep but I don't know exactly what is involved. I would just like to help out when I can because I believe I have the skills to do so.

Please describe your experience as a developer. Back when I got into MineCraft, I always wanted to create. I began dabbling with creating my own servers from a collection of pre-existing plugins but I didn't like that I couldn't fully customize them. This is when I got into bukkit development.

I slowly came to learn the basics of java in order to learn how to customize it to my needs. Mostly, I learn things by testing them. I would look up other authors' similar code online and take bits and pieces of it to create code that does what I want it to do. I try to make my code look as elegant as I can but I do realize that sometimes it's not as pretty as a professional might be able to make it.

I have been staff on various servers (some successful, others not) in the roles of moderator, architect, administrator, and owner. I have coded for servers but not any that have ever got off the ground: which mind you, isn't because of the coding end of it.

What programming languages are you familiar with? I know basic java and I was quite good with Bukkit API.

What are you most proud of as your work as a developer? I was working on writing a server from scratch about a year ago. The code I was working on took into account server protection, online integration, a chat system, teleportation, admin tools such as an improved time of day function and game mode selection just to name its major features. It also had the beginnings of a competitive PvP practice server. The finesse I put into the code was spotless in my opinion. However, I'm unsure if I have this code anymore.

How do you plan to enrich the experience of MeepCraft with your development contributions? I've always want to create things that are innovative and look stunning. I have many ideas for MeepCraft, so long as people will listen. I also think players would appreciate a faster turn around time on new features, which is something I hope to help do by becoming a developer.

Do you have a GitHub account or personal website? If so, please provide the link(s) here. A very old plugin I wrote when I was 16. Unfortunately this is all of my code that I can find for now. PowerTeleport

Could you code something for us to see your work? a code from 4 years ago does not show your skills you have as of right now.

I am unable to code something right now. I kind of came out of MineCraft retirement and don't happen to have any of the code I used to have nor the applications currently installed to write it nor the test environments to make sure it works. Sorry.

So how exactly do you plan to code for the server? Unfortunatley this is needed and what you have isn't enough. I'd suggest you get the applications you need and get ready because we don't accept people and then let them sit around until they are ready you need to be ready when you apply and ready to get into it if given the opportunity to become a tech for Meep.

I could download the required applications and start coding within thirty minutes provided I had a test environment. However, I don't have a test environment, which I deem absolutely necessary to code properly. This is why I hesitate.

    So, Foretvert,

(Please don't mind me if I mispronounced)

I don't know anything about coding, but I know that as a tech you are supposed to be active and be helping the server. With one hour a day and college life I can tell that that would be difficult.

From what I heard, you could always look into Trello and submit individual pieces of code privately. Now again, I don't know if that's possible for you or not, but if that's not possible then I can see you coding as a Trial Tech (like @Vampire_Man_32 )

We don't know how good you can be at Minecraft coding, since all your work is old and you just came back. (Correct me if I'm mistaken) So I think that you can submit a code or two for us and we can evaluate from that.

    +/- for now

I'm a huge -1, When you make an app you need to have proof of the coding you can do, a 4 year old plugin is very old and won't show your coding off. Host a server off your own computer for coding, Very easy to do.

Lots of accurate stuff there, good job. However, I can't exactly submit tested code without a test environment. I also don't want to run a test server on my computer because I don't feel it is capable of doing so.

I feel like my work could be an asset to the server, which is my fuel behind this application. I have a soft spot for Meep and want to help it but I also don't want it to be my life, which is what I felt it was like when I was a mod.

He seems to know what he's doing. However, it seems that you're only interested in coding if you have the application accepted rather than something you actually enjoy doing.

When was the last time you wrote a plugin for MineCraft (or any code using Java)?

Can you explain your reasoning as to why you don't have anything set up to do test environments or alternatives?

What can you provide to the development team that isn't available already?

The last time I wrote a plugin was a year ago, when I last played MineCraft. As already mentioned, I haven't set up a test environment because I don't think my computer is capable of running a server properly while at the same time being in MineCraft. As for what I can bring to the development team, I would say that I tend to use code as a means to an end, not as an end in itself. What I mean by that is I tend to get an image in my head of what exactly what I want to do ingame and then I set out to do it. Some other developers I've worked with haven't been nearly as creative as I am. You're quite right that I'm not interested in coding unless it can be put to use.

I can say with certainty that he knows what he's doing, is a great guy, and has a ton of staff experience.

By the way, I'm super sorry but I think I lost your email that you gave to me once--if you're still interested in keeping in touch think you could pm it again please? If not it's completely fine though.

This should get accepted, He's mature unlike most staff members nowadays and I believe he can greatly benefit the server with pvp and such.

Is having a test environment in your near future? How do you expect to be a tech on a minecraft server without the necessary things you need?

    said above.

If you don't have the write place to code at, then why bother apply for tech. We want active techs who have a lot of experience and showing us code from 4 years ago, doesn't help it.

Eclipse, or any other SDK, is necessary work working with java. This can be downloaded and setup in 10 minutes and my computer can run this well. Bukkit API needs to be compiled from the latest version but due to the Bukkit takedown years ago, new versions are no longer being made. Since anything I write needs to be compatible with Meep, I assume MeepCraft already has a version compiled and could give me a copy. A test environment is also needed but to do that, I need both a computer capable at the very least of running the server, the client, and the SDK all at the same time. I also would need to port forward such a server but I live in a university residence hall where I am literally unable to port forward the hall IP. I was also told my a staff member that Meep does indeed have a test environment. I hope this is true because otherwise this probably implies Meep's plugins are untested, which could lead to disastrous consequences if implemented (as I think it has been in the past).

You're applying for tech without the tools to be a tech.
Yes, a test environment counts as a tool.

Eclipse is an IDE (Integrated Development Enviornment)

Bukkit is integrated with Spigot in such a way that you do not have to consider working with the Bukkit source at all, just follow the guides on the Spigot website to get it up and running on your machine. It takes about 5-10 minutes depending on your internet connection and while it does compile the code it does it all automatically for you so you don't have to worry about the details.

Meepcraft uses several Spigot server instances, not plain Bukkit.

Port forwarding in this context allows connections to a device on a specific port from an outside source which means that if your computer is running the instance of Spigot you would have to forward the proper port to have someone else connect to it from outside your network but you can run a test server and connect to it as well without any interaction with any network settings at all. You would just use localhost in place of an IP address to connect to a locally running Spigot instance.

I can't give an opinion as to +/- because no work was shown but these are relitively simple tasks that you should learn before jumping in to a production environment.
