    How old are you? 25

    Location: New Hampshire, USA

Do you have Discord? Yes: Shellcode

How many hours per day do you spend on Meepcraft? (average) 4-5

Have you ever been a Tech on a different server? Yes

References: Please give IGN's Midnight_Galaxy, Courtneyyy

Introduction: Some of you may remember me because I was Tech last year for a few months before having to resign due to irl issues. I have been around Meepcraft since Febuary 2015 and ended up applying for and being accepted into the Tech position here in 2016. I worked with dblosevn on a wide variety of projects for Meepcraft until he left, then I took on a larger position helping choose and train new members of the Tech team including reggles44 and Lordusan. When I left Meepcraft and returned from my irl struggles I started working for another Minecraft server helping with development tasks and general programming knowledge.

Please describe your experience as a developer. My programming experience started in 2008 with Visual Basic. I studied a lot, asked a lot of seemingly stupid questions and built some software and almost immediately fell in love with software development. Eventually I moved on from Visual Basic to C# and taught myself as much as possible about the language, and C# quickly became my favorite language for software development. I have worked on a variety of software in C# using various different toolkits such as WinForms development, WPF, Console based software, all with the .NET Framework, Mono or (nowadays) .NET Core. I have dabbled in a lot of other languages as well such as ASM, C, C++, Rust, Go, and Javascript (pure, NodeJS, JSX-ReactJS).

My Java experience started with building apps for Android and I quickly realized the similarities between Java and C# which excelled learning by quite a bit. When I was hired as a Tech here on Meepcraft before I started working with Spigot and Bukkit extensively and continued to do so even afterwards. I like developing Java applications using new standards for the language and enjoy learning how to optimize code for speed and stability. At this point I am extremely fluent in Java and the APIs that are required for Minecraft server development.

I have also spent an extensive amount of time working with Linux environments both desktop and server, remotely and locally. I personally use Linux as an every day operating system on my computers and I own and manage several remote servers that run various distributions of Linux. This means that I am familiar and fluent with what makes up the servers that run the Minecraft instances so my help can extend beyond development work if it is required in the future.

What programming languages are you familiar with? Visual Basic (a little rusty nowadays), Javascript, C#, Java, C, some Assembly (ASM) and some Rust (still a noob in this one).

What are you most proud of as your work as a developer? Some of the plugins that I have made for Meepcraft were very well written and I am still pretty proud of them. My latest works on my Github and Gitlab for Minecraft utilize some very new early access Java features in an artsy way so I am very proud of them as well.

How do you plan to enrich the experience of MeepCraft with your development contributions? I already have the experience and training that is needed to get up and running so I plan to work closely with the other Tech staff to create and fix plugins at a faster pace. My prior experience with Java and server administration can be used to enrich the experience for players and help the team maintain a secure and stable backend so that the user experience is always a positive one.

    Hello Spyda!

Although I haven't gotten to know you well in my 6 months here, I'm glad to see you come back and reapply :) When it comes to coding, I'm a toddler (only knowing some HTML from codecademy) so I don't have much to judge, but I like how you always try to keep your code clean and are dedicated to what you do.

My only concern is the security of the server. I'm really hoping that this is not true but some people say that the unnamed tech that deleted our files was you, or lordusan? I know that the person has been talked to, but how will the server know that things like the chaos in January should never happen again?

I know that this is upto the administration and I trust them wholeheartedly, but neither I nor anyone else would want our server down for another month.

This is my only concern, and I am not saying that you or lordusan are the people that have to be blamed, absolutely not. However, I just want to know if there's anything you can elaborate on this.

    Good luck!

+1, we could use your help -- however, I'd recommend a change in perms.

I did have a part in that as I explained here, there was quite a bit going on at the time between the administration of both servers and it was a bad thing for me to take part in. I have accepted responsibility for my actions and apologized both to the staff here and the server as a whole.

One thing that has changed since then is that Meepcraft has secured the backend so that Tech staff do not have access to those parts of the server anymore making that impossible, they also do not have in game permissions like before. I have helped with that process giving Fuzzlr recommendations for increasing security while maintaining a development environment that doesn't restrict access too much for Tech staff. I also offered repeatedly to help get things back up and running.

Basically, the way things are setup now its not possible for anyone of the Tech staff to do harmful things and I hope that I can help make that even more secure by working with @DBLOSEVN and @Fuzzlr on security protocols.

I am a -1 unless you have 0 perms so if you decide to join the next Meep reject server you will only have plugins you've created.

''I hope that I can help make that even more secure by working with @DBLOSEVN and @Fuzzlr on security protocols''

I hope you stay clear from anything security related.

There were no plugins taken from Meepcraft on said server, all of the plugins on there were written by a small team of developers or used from public resources and everything was open source to the public to prove there were no stolen plugins. That doesn't take away responsibility for what happened, but clarifies the extent of the breach.

That's what the current Tech team is basically operating under. There are no need for special perms to do development work.

No permissions are required to consult on security protocols. I very extensive experience with server administration and related security procedures. My point was that I have the ability to offer advice to the people in charge to make sure that things are secure.

I know nothing was stolen, since you snaked Meepcraft last time I can't be certain you wouldn't do it again. I'm am talking for future reference not about what happened previously.

It might just be me, but, I'm not sure that "they fixed permissions so I couldn't do it again" is exactly a statement that would instill trust.

You were complicit in an action that wasn't sprung out of ignorance or mistake, but that of malice that resulted in the near deletion of everything everyone, including me, worked so hard for. -- Why do you deserve another shot to be complicit again?

I hope we can move forward from now on and try to make the server better, instead of staying angry, without forgetting what you did. Nevertheless, it seems the Tech team could use your knowledge.
    I trust you.

I understand your point, but i'm not exactly sure what else to say about it. I realize that it was a horrible thing to do and I have tried to make up for it by being a positive member of the community, helping and offering to help fix things that were broken by the breach and before the breach.

I'd like to think I was a pretty good Tech before, I did quite a bit of work for Meepcraft and I didn't want to leave when I did. I have been around here for quite a while and spent a large amount of my time doing positive things albeit mostly behind the scenes. I want to become a Tech again because I love the community and the server as a whole and i'd like to go back to using my knowledge and experience to benefit Meepcraft.

Trust is hard to gain and easy to lose and i'm willing to do whatever it takes to regain the communities trust like I have been able to with some of the community already. As I said in another thread about this:

My skill is programming and Meepcraft needs people that can do that quickly and accurately, this is my way of being able to give back to the community, and help make this server better with every project.

I completely understand screwing up then having to eat dirt to get back to where you once were and I'm not saying you aren't capable of that.

Being someone who has spent countless hours working to build this very server up, and the one who originally recommended you as tech long ago, the liability that follows you is scary. That being said, I'm a nobody now and unlikely to sway anyone else's opinion.

I wasn't on the server before the reset long enough to be very emotionally committed to it, so I don't feel the full distrust many now have. The questions here are smart and not without good cause. Honestly, what @Shellcode says is true: being tech won't create much harm if his work is reviewed. Tech can do some dangerous stuff to the server, but not like before as the new security measures should protect security. Any other dangers should be obvious by review of his work.

I know that what happened was a very, very rough way to start the year and we got into it pretty bad personally but since then you've really shown an interest unlike before. I do believe that you would be more than an asset to the team especially working alongside dblo. Our console and ingame perms have since changed and we are able to secure things more efficiently but I don't want that to be the way we think or feel coming into this. I want this to be a fresh start and a new beginning for you. I am obviously a +1 and I wish you the utmost luck!

Freelance tech. I'd recommend he doesnt have anything to do with the server directly.
Give him basic stuff to do so he can regain his trust.

but dont repeat the same mistake.

Approved with restrictions agreed upon on discord no perms ever and code reviews before we push any of your plug-ins. Welcome back to the team look forward to you showing everyone you've changed and doing big things for the server. I always liked you and you are an awesome developer I was shocked to learn what happened but we all make mistakes. Look forward to working with you again.
