Thing is, those perks don't have a specific cost. The shear fact that a you have to donate a specific amount of money for a specific perk makes it a purchase.

Here's the difference: When you donate, you aren't entitled anything in return.
When you purchase something, you are entitled something in return.

When you give money to the server, the server promises you a specific product in return. This makes it a purchase.

I still don't get why it matters, legally, they can do whatever they want to our rank and get away with it, and legally its not considered a donation, just play the game jesus people.

I think making ranks cheaper could up the "donations." Now that those players donated, they will stay longer because they feel tied to the server that they spent their hard earned cash on.
