So I'm totally down for 1.9 on meep, and I found a server that was able to emulate a good pvp environment while keeping the logistics for 1.9
Please read this post and post your thoughts on the matter
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey everyone. So we have been very hard at work for the past 2 weeks trying to get our network ready for 1.9. This has taken a lot more work than we originally had planned on because of some poor design decisions with 1.7. As a result we had to go back and redo a lot of our work. Not to mention supporting 1.7/1.8/1.9 has proved to be quite difficult with some of our advanced features such as the tab list. Nevertheless we have prevailed \o/
So, before I start reading "Omg 1.9 sucks.", "Omg [Server] is dead", "Omg what the [] are you doing!?" and other stupid comments in this thread take a few moment's to actually READ the thread before you act like an idiot in it.
[Server]'s 1.9 is not default vanilla 1.9
I repeat
[Server]'s 1.9 is not default vanilla 1.9
The following balance changes have been made (subject to change):
Change: Attack speed of all swords/axes have been modified from 0.8-1.6 dps to 7.0 dps (7 attacks [full swings] per second)
Reasoning: The attack speed in 1.9 is slow…like way too slow…like turtle slow. No idea who's idea it was to make attacks have a charge with such a slow damn time. We think the idea of the charged attack is cool. It helps defeat things like autoclickers and triggerbots because if you attack too fast you get punished. This game should NOT be based on how fast you can click a mouse. If you compare an eSport to any real sport it is based on the player's performance. Not the hardware they have. Some mice can be clicked faster than others. This gives an unfair advantage to people who have shittier hardware. As a result we have changed the attack speed to something that is humanly possible without jitter clicking, butterfly clicking, or using any third party help. Also make sure to remember that in Minecraft you can only attack the same entity (player) twice a second. All other attacks are simply ignored during the 500 ms wait period.
Change: Sweep Attack has been reworked. Instead of now being every time your sword charge is full you need to crouch in order use the sweep attack. In addition there is a three second cooldown.
Reasoning: The sweep attack is a nice option for fighting. It gives you the option to attack/knockback multiple opponents at once. This could be a good opener to splash a little bit of AoE (Area of Effect) damage onto the opponents or used as a retreat option when trying to run away from people. The issue is that since we changed the attack speed of the default weapons, you pretty much always are sweep attacking since the charge up time for the weapons is a lot faster. As a result we have decided to make it a cool secondary ability which you activate by crouching and attacking. (We will add a sound to let you know that the cooldown is up in a later patch).
Change: Fishing rods are reverted to 1.7 behavior (in vanilla 1.9 you cannot attack players with a Fishing rod).
Reasoning: As much as I hate fishing rods, they have played a very important part in breaking combos. Now that block hitting is no longer a part of the game you still need an option in order to break combos or apply some extra knockback to someone as you are trying to retreat. As a result we have reverted the fishing rod behavior to 1.7 behavior where the fishing rod can hit an enemy opponent.
Change: Shields now reduce arrow damage (33% of original damage) instead of just cancelling it.
Reasoning: If you attack someone who is using a shield the damage is reduced from 100% -> 33% in vanilla 1.9 Minecraft. If someone shoots an arrow at the shield the damage goes from 100% -> 0%. While in theory this does make sense, it doesn't make for good gameplay in Minecraft. As a result we have modified the shield damage from arrows to be 33% of the original damage just like swords/axes when blocking with a shield.
Change: Critical attacks have been modified in 1.9 behavior. We have no intention of changing them.
Reasoning: The system of critical attacks in 1.7 is really silly and stupid. You accidentally are applying critical damage throughout your fight since you just have to be in the air in order to attack critically. In 1.9 they added an extra condition to critical attacks. You have to not be sprinting. This makes more sense in reality since you would have to focus more energy on the attack which means you would probably not be running. This also adds another skill factor to the game. Players who can properly 'W' tap (instead of toggle sprinting) will be able to take advantage of the new critical system and might be able to apply some extra damage.
Change: Armor has been reverted to 1.7 behavior (in vanilla 1.9 the armor has been nerfed…a lot)
Reasoning: Flat out Mojang made armor way too weak for a serious PvP environment. When we were testing the gameplay out people were dying way too fast. As a result we reverted the armor behavior back to 1.7 behavior in order to keep a more consistent gameplay transition for people moving from 1.7 to 1.9 slowly.
Change: Axe Damage has been reduced from vanilla 1.9 damage.
Reasoning: Since we increased the attack speed of the axes, the damage had to be reduced in order to make swords the main go to weapon still. For those of you who are not familiar with the 1.9 changes, if you attack someone who is using a shield with an axe, the shield is disabled for 5 seconds. This allows a great opportunity to smash on some extra damage that they cannot block. (Remember blocking reduces damage to 33% of the original attack).
Conclusion
@Archybot and I both personally feel that [Server]'s 1.9 will be the future of Minecraft PvP. We have spent time looking at the things that made 1.7 PvP good as well as the things that have made 1.7 PvP bad. We have done our best to properly balance this new update for a PvP community (which is what [Server] has always been based around). We are hoping that everyone here takes the time to read the patch notes for [Server] 1.9, and takes some time to come onto the new [Server] 1.9 ArenaPvP servers (which come out tomorrow) and try it out. We think that you will all find very fast that [Server]'s 1.9 has a higher skill cap than [Server]'s 1.7 and that the gameplay doesn't feel too different from before.
Also please keep in mind that we will be tweaking and balancing things still slowly (weapons/armor, knockback, hit angles, etc) over the next week or so. Once we have finalized our balance changes to 1.9 we will be publishing a plugin or a Spigot patch for people to use in order to emulate [Server] 1.9's PvP mechanics.
That's it for now guys. Feel free to discuss the patch notes below and give us your feedback on how amazing of a job we did for fixing Minecraft 1.9 PvP.
