    In Game Name: MCRichHuey
Skype (Yes/No): Not at this time, but available if needed
    Teamspeak Username: MCRichHuey
Mic use: Yes, with a deep Poppa Bear voice (I'm NOT Cooleys!)
    Age: 39
    Timezone: Eastern Standard Time (EST)
Hours online per weekday: 1-2, after 5:00 PM
Hours online per weekend: 2-4, varied
    Position Changes: Citizen to Helper

    Introduction:

Hello Meepers! My name is Rich Huey, AKA MCRichHuey, and I'm interested in becoming a Helper. I'm an older player, here on Meepcraft because my kids play, and I have found it to be a kid-friendly, welcoming environment that I would like to be a greater part of. I've shared some of my thoughts about the server already on the forums, and I'm currently working on a couple projects that may be helpful in the future if I become a staff member, such as modeling the economy and finding ways to make a bunch of money. I'm a fairly regular visitor to the TeamSpeak server, where I maintain a low profile, speaking up when necessary to calm down some of the more aggressive discussions. I have experience running a private friends and family server (currently offline because Meep is more fun) with most of the current public plugins used by Meepcraft (Towny, etc), so I'm familiar with the command syntax needed for most moderator tasks.

Why you should be Helper/Mod? (Strengths)
    1. I have 20+ years of experience with online communities, both as a participant, and as a moderator/admin. I know both how to start AND end a Flame War, as well as how to starve a Troll. You may have heard that the cake is a lie, and that an arrow to the knee was unpleasant, but I remember how to avoid the Grue!
    2. For most players, I'm old enough to be your dad, and I'll tell you when you need to straighten up and behave. I'll also do my best to answer questions you have about most subjects, and offer advice from my years of experience.
    3. I like to have fun, but not at the expense of hurting or mistreating someone else. This is game, but it's real people on the other side of the screen. I try to use wisdom when dealing with interpersonal situations, and try to hear out both sides of a story before making a judgement.
    4. I'm a professional computer geek who has been playing Minecraft since it was in Alpha state, and seeing a community like Meepcraft which has sprung up around some fairly simple modifications to the server code intrigues me. I have some experience writing plugins for other games, and one day I would like to have the opportunity to do the same for Meepcraft.
    Weaknesses:
    1. Limited amount of playing time - As an adult with a full time job, my recreation hours are limited. I would like to spend some of them here on Meepcraft, helping to grow a better community. I wish I had more time to offer, but sadly, I do not. This is probably my greatest weakness concerning Meepcraft at this time.
    2. New to the community - I've been playing on Meepcraft for a couple of months now. Not as long as many of the players, but long enough to learn the ins and outs of the economy and the social structure. Like Santa Claus, I know who the good kids are, as well as the troublemakers. I don't have issues with most of the policies in place on the server, I'd just like to see them enforced more reliably.
    Conclusion:

I'm a parent, looking for a greater role in an online community where my kids enjoy spending time. I have the skill-set to be an Admin if needed, but at this time, I'd be happy to just be a Helper and contribute in any way that I can.

Thanks in advance for your consideration, and I look forward to your well constructed, thoughtful feedback!

You know, I do have a spoken word album up on I-tunes that you can purchase for the low low cost of $9.99 if you really need to hear my dulcet tones. It's called "I'm not Cooley's, but that's OK, people love me anyway!" If you buy it today, I think it's discounted. :singing:

It depends on the context, and if the person is using the acronym to bypass a filter preventing the use of inappropriate language. Sometimes, people make mistakes/typos/etc., and those can be overlooked, but other times, they deliberately overstep and break the rules. It also helps to have things explicitly defined in the rules, and be consistent on enforcing them.

If/when (when) this gets accepted, I call dibs on leading the interview! I will make you talk for hours > : )

    +1

Edit: If accepted, we will need to talk to you for several hours before hand. That way you won't automatically say +1 due to your amazing voice. Just thought I'd let you know.

Oh emmm geeee! You got Diana to talk! Holy crap! You MUST be Cooleys! She wouldn't even comment on mine!

Anyways, on a more serious note. I have seen you in game a fair amount. Although I have never gotten a chance to really speak with you personally, I have had the pleasure of reading over some of your comments/opinions on a few threads here on forums. You seem very wise and I will be honest, your app shocked the cheese out of me! Very well written, detailed, and the way you threw that humor in there that only Slicks seems to understand... anyways.. what im saying is you seem like you could be a great addition to the team. I am +10,000 for an interview!

You seem like a great guy even though I've personally never seen you. +1

Before I place in a personal decision, I'd like to ask you for your stance on inappropriate acronyms.
I'm glad to see you apply after your thread asking about what the role of staff is.

ooo, when I first met you you had just kinda started to become active. I wasn't sure if you were gonna stay on or not (plus I don't keep up much I just lurk forums). But you seem to be active, you're incredibly mature, and borderline genius. Rise through the ranks. We need another admin with a beautiful voice.

While I do have bias toward protecting my kids, as any parent should have, I am also the first to correct them if they step out of line. I have had to issue a "parental ban" from Minecraft in the past due to bad behavior, and would have no problem doing the same in game for rules violations.

But... I'm not THAT old! That's a grandpa level of protection there, used to cover up stale farts and mildew!

I'm not going to list their names here on the forums, but they are easy enough to figure out with an in-game command. They probably won't respond to chat, though, since I have told them not to talk to strangers until I approve them. :bag:

So someone who disagrees with your opinion on "inappropriate acronyms" doesn't want to keep the server clean, doesn't want to protect children, and doesn't think the server should be friendly to users of all ages? Does "inappropriate acronyms" include WTF and STFU, which typically are meant to contain inappropriate language but are currently not punishable under our rules?

One of the things I liked about MCRichHuey's response is that he actually didn't get into what he thinks should or shouldn't be allowed on this thread. He basically said he would do the job of a staff member and enforce the rules (Edit: taking into account whether the offense was intentional or not), and then added that having clear and consistently enforced rules helps. :)

We can talk about this elsewhere if you want, lol. But I felt it was important to reply to this publicly, because I'm afraid that it might send a public message... that in order to become staff, people must agree with certain staff members about certain matters of opinion. If that's not what you're trying to communicate, please feel free to correct me. I just think as long as we all are working together toward a common goal and are respectful toward each other, a diversity of perspectives on the staff team is something to be welcomed.

+1 - Loved the application, and from what I've seen, I think you would be great as staff. :D Smart, knowledgeable, friendly, fun, and fairly active.

I had similar concerns about time/activity when I applied, and we can talk a little more about that in private if you want. Just from the two weeks I've experienced so far... I can say that the less time you spend on MeepCraft overall, the higher proportion of your time will likely be spent doing staff work vs. playing the game. You'll still be able to hang out and have fun, especially when there are other staff online who are taking care of things (or on the other side, when there aren't many people on at all). :) But when you've only got 1-2 hours on a weekday, there's going to be less "wiggle room" for you than there will be on the weekends, if that makes sense.

I was going to ask how this is relevant to his qualifications for Helper... but MCRichHuey's answer was well-reasoned and well-stated, so it actually was good to see how he responded to a question like that. :)

+1 You are a pleasure to listen to! Oh, and yeah, you seem pretty helpful in TeamSpeak too.
