Players doing this aren't glitching. They're using a system set up by staff themselves.

 

My interpretation: The section of the rules this fall under is called Hacks/Cheating, and using outside information to game the stock system to earn guaranteed profits can't be described as anything other than cheating. The rules also clearly state that the spirit of any rule takes precedence over the letter of the rule.

Therefore, whether this is a software glitch or a design flaw is entirely irrelevant. It's cheating, and seing as how widespread use would easily destabilize the entire economy, it rises to the level of a bug that should be fixed, and an exploit that can earn a ban and meeble wipe for its exploiters.

 

If you can show me where Google or Yahoo Finance regularly say, "These are the stocks which will go up in value in 15 minutes, guaranteed! Buy now!!", then I will drop my objections, and immediately begin exploiting the crap out of that IRL.

 

Yeah they do, they do when meep delays their stock market by 15 minutes. Is is wrong that players are doing this? Yes, but they shouldn't get banned for it.

 

So what you're saying is, this doesn't happen IRL, so this must be cheating. Glad we cleared that up.

 

Too bad I never said that, by your logic we can die and respawn multiple times in game so therefore it is cheating. What I'm saying is that due to Meep's flawed design, people can legally use websites like Yahoo and Google in order to see how the stocks perform before they are purchased. This isn't a glitch, exploit or anything, just people using their resources. Morally it is wrong and should be fixed but you cannot fault the players for finding this out and using it, because it is meep's design/plugin, it is their burden to fix this problem.

After looking at your statement time and time again, I cannot fathom how you could come to such an ignorant explanation.

 

Morally it's wrong, because you know it's cheating. This is a very simple matter. Everything else you've said is just you overcomplicating things because cognitive dissonance. You're trying to make it okay in your mind while knowing it's wrong, and while knowing it's a problem.

Just because something is morally wrong, doesn't mean its cheating. Just because you are doing something a thing wasn't intended to do, doesn't mean its exploiting.

 

A couple months ago a few people got Perm banned for a glitch with the bank teller. They made millions of meebles. Of corse it never said they couldn't but it is considered glitching. This is illegal ...

 

It's not considered glitching, they are just using the system. This is a purposeful design flaw. Someone had set it up to open the stock market 15 min before real life, that is no glitch.

Changes are an admin odr whoever implemented the plugin didn't know about it not being fully live until 15 mins after opening time.

Well, you're forgetting the big picture here.. Meepcraft's stock market is/was not aimed to be realistic, obviously. It was made without much thought, and without care. Ranting about why your opinion is right or wrong is a waste of your time, simply because none of this was made with any thought.

As for what the moderator did... This is a form of "insider trading". In the real world, it is VERY illegal to take part in insider trading. For example, say I have a friend who owns a large corporation which is in the food industry. One day, he calls me and tells me that they recently found salmonella in one of their products. He says the next day, he will have to tell the public. I currently own many shares in his business. When he tells me this, I immediately sell all of my shares, before the public knows, so I can maximize profit.

This is similar to what the moderator here on Meepcraft is doing. He is finding out what the market has done overnight, then taking advantage of the market, and making as much money as he can. This person is taking the point of the stock market out of the game. You're supposed to take risks, and think with your brain. It is beyond me how someone like this gets on a staff team, but who knows? This was clearly not taken into consideration by the administration, so it has to be an exploit.

Now, I will propose a solution to this problem. The first server to create a real stock exchange, is/was also the largest economy server. They made the in-game market open from 12pm-4pm(approx.). This gets rid of any unwanted exploits.

 

I guess if we're going to assume that anytime something happens it was done on purpose, I must have liked the look of that coffee on my shirt this morning.

Or we could just ask the staff if this was by design, since they're the only ones who can possibly know their own minds? Or watch their reactions to see what those say about their intentions?

Hey, look, visit the bank and you'll see a sign that stock traders are currently disabled. I overheard a staff member saying it was because of this thread, and that anyone who had stocks was going to be refunded their purchase price, but would not be allowed to keep any profits. Hmmmm... what do these actions say about intent?

 

Achmed thinks that the easiest way to solve this problem is that all the money made from stocks should go to Achmed and he will keep it safe for you.
