There was a misunderstanding with a player that had posted an imgur link to another player about a funny moment they had. Because the caps filter had changed it, it sent the picture of a naked man to the player, and he had reported it to staff. The player who sent it was wrongfully banned after that for Inappropriate messaging.
And yes, that had happened on the server before.

You guys need to come up with pros and cons about the situation other than just saying "Denied, just use /mail". The alterations continue IN /mail as well.
Say you need to send proof about a hacker in KitPVP and you send it to an admin to check. The link has lots of caps in it, so /msg alters it and lowers the link to be lowercase. It takes the admin to a link with inappropriate information about something, so you get an unnecessary warning because of it.

Just remove the caps filter in /msg. It's not needed.

That is by far, without a fathomable doubt, the dumbest excuse I have ever seen in my entire life for anything, ever.

    Removing the caps filter:

-Able to post links. Actually Jess, you might not believe this, but Meepcrafters like to send eachother links, not just to staff.
-Able to use acronyms, and you are able to freely use a private chat without restrictions

Honestly, I'm pretty sure caps in messaging is a basic human right.

Staff, please either accept this or find a worthy excuse to shoot this out of the water

I think you have the wrong mentality here. Its not the role of the server to needlessly restrict players from doing things. The reason something is restricted is because it causes a problem. If it doesn't cause a problem, then we should never take that away from the players because nobody gains from it and the players become irritated. The server does not benefit by having this restriction. The caps filter can be removed in private message with no harm.

The hyperlink is iffy because of more...naughty links being sent out, but they can still be sent through mail, so i honestly don't see the point. Theres already a way of bypassing it. Don't have an opinion on this one, as I can see it going either way.

And honestly Jess, this is quite literally a 30 second fix for fuzzlr or anyone with access to the plugins. It would take all of 15 seconds for DBLo (The legend himself) to fix it. Its such a small task that realistically, its not going to get in the way of things. If you can't provide the reason it was removed and can't really give an explanation as to why it should stay removed besides: "Why is there such a need to use caps". you should probably consider letting them have this.

I've went through every comment and copied out valid points that I observed, hopefully none repetitive. Be warned that I've made some minor changes to these quotes, such as punctuation. Most notably are those changes in bold.

Reasons to Remove the Caps Rule
    • Able to post links
    • It sent the picture of a naked man to the player - If there was no caps filter the issue could have well been avoided
    • Able to use acronyms
    • Can't even type @VKL's damn name correctly
    • My report couldn't be seen because of the caps rule.
    • The server GETS swear words and inappropriate things said on it all the time Insert Murphy's Law
    • Spamming can still be done
    • Deleting or disabling the chat plugin would be easy
    • People have almost been wrongfully punished because of this

Reasons to Keep the Caps Rule
    • Someone could send atrocious things to another
    • This is a waste of time x8
    • Gets meep nowhere
    • They could report it on forums
    • Don't use imgur

Let me ask this, why is there a reason not to include caps in /msg?
In your message, I am seeing a lot of
    and
I think, personally at least, I'd like to see more answers than a circular argument such as 'Why is there a need'.
Instead, tell us your reasons for why there shouldn't be caps included in /msg.
    While a profoundly weak argument, I'll provide an example;
Players can abuse this by using all capital letters in messages to others, effectively spamming them.

I'm not siding with any participants here, frankly, because nobody messages me. However; let it be noted that, in my eyes, staff should be answering the questions of the public, not mirroring them and parading them as answers.

    tl;dr Jess' comment triggered me

ok first of all lmfao do u even hear urself here

so far the major two arguments on both sides are weak af tbh

    -"It requires more moderation"
Players harassing other players via msg are going to use caps whether or not it's enabled, saying expletives Lik E Th Is rather than LIKE THIS doesn't really make much of a difference, the player would report them for harassment and it would be handled. Enabling caps in message wouldn't increase the amount of harassment cases, harassment would just happen slightly differently. We wouldn't have to use social spy, because it would be incredibly spammy on staff's screen as we're a high volume server.

    +"Then we can use links"
Why does it matter that www. shortens to ww. ? it doesn't actually make any difference? 'www.youtube.com' and 'youtube.com' go to the same place, www is unnecessary.
Also, if you want to send an image or link to someone that's case sensitive, tinyurl.com exists. There the links created aren't caps sensitive, and it only adds about 5 seconds to the time it takes to share the link.

The best argument for it is "Why is this something we are denied?"
I don't agree with the decision to disallow it because you haven't been able to supply us with a suitable reason for doing so. I understand when going over suggestions the first thing that's brought up is "How much work would this be to implement", but here, there wouldn't really be much work at all. Dblo takes up mini projects sporadically, why can't this be one of them?

I feel this is something y'all should revisit and either come up with a viable denial or add back to trello.
im not hating on u jess ilu and i know these are usually group decisions

I'd like to be able to have a good LOL, WTF, or an AFK.

The rule used to be three words of caps or less or you get a kick. It's not like we are short on staff or that a /kick is that much effort.

I'd like to see Caps back again.

    wow
    just wow
I basically have no words to describe this sucky attitude that I've seen so far.
You basically repeat "This is a waste of time" four times. What makes this sad is that you haven't realized how people have almost been wrongfully punished because of this.
You basically laugh at this, and find how petty this is. You laugh at what we complain about, and you don't find us serious.
What in the actual hell have you jumped to?

If this is how staff act about something serious like this, I've just given up on everything here.

Who is this Jess_4Ds person? God damn this is getting bad.

Like I honestly don't get this. Take off the caps filter, and go back to the old system where if someone caps spams, kick them and tempban after awhile. Now people just type word for word L I K E T H I S and it's even more annoying, and still only gets a kick and then a tempban.

Posts like this happen, Then I get asked "Klutch, are you thinking about quitting Meep?"

No, Im not. But posts like this where certain players decide to start a forum war over being able to use caps in messages. . . .

You want to know why I seem distant a lot? Because of stupidity like this thread. Instead of just saying, Ok, theyre right. Lets focus on getting Meep straight and making towny stop crashing, minigames fixed, ect. and propose this at a later date, You find the need to act like a 12 year old forum bully with nothing better to do than pick something small and draw attention to yourself.
So yes, community. Im disappointed. If you wanted to have a discussion about it, then you can start a discussion thread. Not a "staff sucks" thread.

I read this whole thread and all I see is a bunch of edgy hormonal teenagers arguing on a website and the occasional adult playing a children's game trying to prove their superiority

I think you've forgetten that I've owned a minecraft server for half a year, I know my way around plugins. Deleting or disabling the chat plugin would be easy, taking half an hour at max. It would go so far for people, obviously many people are passionate about this and I wanted to just verify a godawful deny reason. Disabling this plugin would go a long way, and previously stated, it would take no more than thirty minutes. I think I know enough about plugins to make that assumption.

I don't appreciate it that you are jumping to conclusions and being mean to me for putting my ideas on this forum. I meant no harm in making this thread, and the fact that you instantly become defensive makes you look extremely immature.

This isn't the first time I've heard the legend of the unintended porn link. We know it's a fact that the chat filter will alter hyperlinks, and we know that the results will be entirely unpredictable. Based on how often people exchange hyperlinks, it is expected that such an issue would have happened before, and it can be expected to happen again.

For a server that bills itself as family-friendly, and mostly behaves that way, this should be considered an intolerable result.

As a parent yourself, if you paid for your children to play a game, and you saw it serving porn links to them, your first reaction would be to delete the game and demand a full refund. A server cannot be held fully responsible for the behavior of its users, but this isn't the case of user behavior - it's the code that's responsible.
