I'm fairly sure they haven't announced the details of his wall, or at least disclosed information about it yet, but here's my thought as to how it would work:
The wall would act as intended, but have gaps in between where trade would go on, legal immigration would be carried out, and tourism. There would be enough of these gaps for people to get through to trade, emigrate/immigrate, and to tour the other countries, but not so many as to it's implausible to watch all of them. Most likely there would also be a certain number of officials watching over the entry/exitways.

Certainly it will prove tedious to build it, maintain it, and travel through it, but to me it will most likely be beneficial by serving its purpose.

I don't exactly agree with some of the premeses of this argument.

For example, you say that "Donald Trump is going to take action...No facts or anything could predict what he could do..."

Just as change for the sake of change is bad, action for the sake of action is mostly detrimental to the country. Trump's track record, while not sterling, has been reasonably good. However, we cannot simply take action without knowing exactly what constitutes those actions. You say "Many countries...[hope] that she becomes president so they can take advantage of her." However, Clinton's experience as Secretary of State by default makes her more qualified than Trump in dealing with foreign negotiations. Additionally, Trump has already alienated most of our current allies in David Cameron, who called Trump stupid and wrong, Angela Merkel, who Trump claimed was ruining Germany, and Francois Hollande, who probably hates Trump just because of our policies. Trump is simply not the kind of person to "bring fear into other countries." In fact, hostile nations would most likely use Trump's inexperience in negotiations to take advantage of the US.

Finally, Trump's previous track record shows that personal benefit can easily sway Trump's opinion on a given issue. Trump has shown that he will quickly abandon his stated values in order to secure a "better deal," so to speak--not exactly a quality you want to see in a president. These precedents will be parallelled in Trump's policies if he gets elected: Trump will side with a given nation if it a) brings him positive media coverage 2) will benefit him or his business or 3) will bring the US more money, regardless of previous treaties/agreements or moral values.
(To be fair I'm pretty sure Hillary has no values whatsoever)

All in all, I believe that electing Trump would be a grave mistake.

If he can pull it off, go for it. I would pay 50 cents on every 100 dollars in stock I own and 0.1% on my government bonds. What i'd hate to see however is a decline in the quality of higher education. He would have to add measures to ensure that people are not simply using the 2 free years of college as a free ride while not showing up to class. It happens enough with people paying full tuition, how can he stop it from happening with those using taxpayer dollars?
Know that I'm not against the idea, but he would have to be more specific in what steps he would take to earn my endorsement.

You know I made jokes about moving to Canada if he got elected. The sad part is that every day Canada becomes more appealing.

No, I don't tend to follow the democratic party as closely as the republican party so I haven't picked up anything that doesn't directly concern me.

While I suppose that such a wall would work in theory, here are several detriments I can think of off the top of my head.

    1) Funding. Where exactly would the funding to pay for the wall come from? Mexico sure isn't going to pay for it. The wall would be a tremendous waste of taxpayer money which would be better served actually improving the lives of people. For example, education programs are already being cut, with music and fine arts budgets being slashed across the board. Building a wall would further serve to deflate these budgets.

    2) Patrolling. How would we monitor the length of the wall? Do we have guard towers every mile? How do we pay the Border Patrol agents to watch the border? The border is 1989 miles long. How exactly do you monitor the whole length of that 24/7?

    3) Private property. Would the government simply seize the land used to build the wall from farmers? I'm sure many individuals living in border communities would oppose the wall, because it would be built on their land. This isn't to mention that some American farmers own property across the border in Mexico as well. How exactly would labourers travel to Mexico to work when there's a wall in between? How do you drive animals to from their Mexican stables to their American pastures? Do farmers pay property tax for the portion of land that the wall is built on?

    4) Many prospective immigrants will simply dig tunnels under the wall, or follow the footsteps of an increasing number of people: sail a boat north and land on a secluded California beach at night.

I can't quote parts of posts on this tablet, so I'll uset tag @builderjunkie12

As to your comment about the declining quality of higher education, if don't show up to class, their grades will be terrible, and they will be placed on academic probation and expelled.

Yes, that is the current process and, although it's not infallible, it does work quite well. What I'm asking is more of a question as to whether or not he has a way of separating the good eggs from the bad, or is he going to be like oprah winfrey in terms of handing out "free" stuff.

you're dropped from the class if you're absent too much, and like full rides or any form of scholarship supplied by the schools, government assistance would work similarly. Insufficient grades and attendance gets you dropped from the program, just like failing a college class you got loans for means the gov won't loan you that money anymore. As is, the current prices of college are absolutely absurd simply because they can be, the price of college won't lessen the work ethic but will make it more accessible to the general population, and will then lead to more skilled workers seeking skilled jobs. Free tuition for public colleges will drive down the price of private institutions as well, because the vast price difference will sway many to simply attend public college. The additional tax wouldn't even affect the general population, as it's taxing the very wealthy a small portion of the outrageous and needless wealth they're accumulating.

That's the thing. His ideas are crazy. Would rather have a liar who is going through sane policies than a nut job who's proposing some pretty crazy reactionary ideas. The same exact thing applies to Ted Cruz.

Supporting someone because you think the person will win is exactly what's wrong with voters. If more people thought like you, do you think any decent candidates would have a shot?

It's your opinion, so I don't care who you choose. But I don't think it's wise to support someone just because they have a better chance at winning.

I'll be voting for Bernie Sanders in the Illinois primary on March 15th even if Hillary is ahead in the polls.

The cost to build? The cost to maintain and protect? Building a wall isn't going to be foolproof. People will find a way around/over it. Unless it's some crazy 100 foot high wall that stretches the whole border (which is insanely expensive), I don't think it will be as effective as you think. We could be putting more effort into making it easier to become a citizen and letting new immigrants being active citizens that contribute to society as opposed to just deporting them all.

This thread makes me seriously want to like kill some people, or do something. Not sure yet.

I'm not sure why any of this information really matters to anyone under 18. Other than knowing about politics and who supports what, I honestly don't get why some people are so passionate about it. Colorado voted for Bernie, and I'm not necessarily against that. I don't agree with all of his thoughts on policies that should come into place, but I think it would be a better start to something.

I'm personally not a fan of anything political. I wasn't one to debate things when I was growing up, and I still think you should believe what you believe but be informed of the whole truth on both sides of the argument and align with the one that makes the most sense to you. Just you. Not anyone else's opinion. A lot of social media gives us something called a trial balloon. Most information ends up not being the whole story, or that specific group didn't get the best information on it.

I loved political history. I think I was really up to voting until this election came about. This election and the following one truly show how much America has gone down the drain.

Bleh. That's my thoughts on all of this. Just, be a nice human being and don't call people names or say they are a bad person. You don't know them personally. :)

My mistake. I honestly don't know what I was thinking when I said that tl;dr part. Currently I would vote Bernie Sanders if I could vote, followed up by Trump as a second.
The cost of the wall is most likely around 10 billion dollars, which is already much less than how much U.S. spends for its borders. All sorts of government projects- a single aircraft carrier, is already 3 billion more than the wall cost. At a height of around 40 feet and good maintenance, it would fairly hard to go over it or through it. I don't believe the expenses of the wall (video cameras, workers, concrete, maintenance) will get too high.
The main thing I would be fine with him becoming president (not necessarily rooting for him, pointed out my mistake) is the fact that there is going to be change towards the country. He doesn't play the politician's game, and has no sense of political correctness whatsoever. I agree, the change has a chance of being bad change- but it could also be a good change. If Trump so happens to do a bad enough act, then wouldn't he be impeached?

In all honestly, I don't know how I ended up researching politics this week. I'm more of a science/math person, but wondered why so many people were fussing over these caucuses and presidential debates. Being curious, I spent a few days researching stuff about politics and history. In the end though it doesn't really matter for me, as I'm under 18. It's just curiosity for me right now, I guess.

Careful, that's what everyone said 6 months ago about the republican nomination. (Face it, he's won the nomination)

Not very relevant, but Angela Merkel is ruining Germany. She's a bit of a clown.
